If you find yourself punishing your cat for certain behaviors, it may be a sign that the behavior is being misunderstood. It’s easy to assume a cat is misbehaving, but in reality, every behavior has a purpose. Your cat isn’t acting out to annoy you. There’s a reason behind what your cat is doing. Whether it's scratching furniture, jumping on counters, or vocalizing at night, not using the litter box, or biting, these actions fulfill a need or communicate something important.

Punishment often comes from the belief that a cat is being spiteful or difficult, but that isn’t true. Your cat is either expressing a natural instinct, reacting to specific circumstances, or trying to tell you something. By understanding the "why" behind the behavior, you can respond more effectively and as a result, build a stronger, more trusting relationship with your cat.

🚫🐶 Blue-Green Algae: A Deadly Danger For Dogs!

Blue-green algae might look like harmless scum or discolored water … but it's actually toxic bacteria that can make your dog very sick — or even be deadly. Just a quick swim or a sip of contaminated water is enough to cause serious harm.

Toxins from blue-green algae can lead to:
⚠️ Liver damage or failure
⚠️ Seizures, tremors, or paralysis
⚠️ Vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
⚠️ Breathing issues
⚠️ Disorientation or even coma

Symptoms can show up within 30 minutes, so always keep a close eye after water play. If you notice any of these signs, get your dog to the vet right away!

Providing your dog with a designated space of their own helps promote relaxation, encourages healthy boundaries, and can play a key role in preventing separation anxiety.

For multi-dog households, crates are an excellent management tool, especially during mealtimes, to ensure safety and also prevent resource guarding or conflicts.

Honey enjoys her crate time, which plays an important role in helping her decompress and feel safe in her environment. 💛🍯

BLACKBERRIES - SMALL BUT POWERFUL:

Whether fresh or frozen, blackberries make for a healthy addition to your pet's nutritionally balanced, species-appropriate diet. Blackberries are valued not only for their culinary versatility but also for their therapeutic properties. In fact, they're considered functional foods, providing health benefits beyond basic nutrition.

Blackberries are chock-full of health-boosting polyphenols, and one of their primary constituents are anthocyanins, which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective actions, among others.

Large dogs can enjoy a small handful of berries daily. For smaller dogs or cats, offer two to four berries for every 10 pounds of body weight.

5 Science-Backed Hot Spot Remedies for Pets

Hot spots, also called moist dermatitis or "summer sores😣," are inflamed🔥 or infected areas on your dog’s skin that develop when a minor irritation or wound stays moist. These spots are painful and can quickly worsen as bacteria🦠 spread.

The minute you see your pup licking or focusing on one area of their body, immediately disinfect🧼 the area with dilute povidone iodine twice daily. Apply one of these soothing remedies on the photo, as directed. It’s very important to disinfect the skin wound at least twice a day. Trimming or shaving the hair around the wound makes for easier and less messy treatment and makes the wound easier to clean.

🚫 Don’t Let Organic Pet Food Become Livestock Feed!
The USDA is proposing to roll back organic pet food standards, undoing protections passed in December 2024. If this rule is eliminated, organic pet food could be regulated like livestock feed—allowing meat from diseased, condemned, or uninspected animals to end up in your pet’s bowl.
Pets are family. They deserve the same quality standards we expect in our own food.

📅 Deadline to comment: June 11 at 11:59PM ET. Submit your comment, or this one:
The rule titled “National Organic Program; Market Development for Mushrooms and Pet Food” must be preserved to protect the health of companion animals. Repealing it would revert organic pet food to outdated livestock feed standards, allowing substandard ingredients like meat from diseased or uninspected animals. Organic pet food deserves regulations that reflect its intended purpose—feeding pets safely—not loopholes that compromise quality and trust.

The deadline is TOMORROW…please don’t put this off! ✍️ Submit your comment to the USDA RIGHT NOW🙏🏼:

It was way too hot to do much outside today, so Honey and I took it slow and enjoyed some much-needed peace and quiet in the shade. Sometimes, the best training advice is simply helping your dog learn how to relax and just enjoy being in the moment. Keep up the good work Honey! 🍯💛

💔 Rest in Peace, Sweet Ahva 💔

Last night, the world lost one of the goofiest, gentlest souls I’ve ever known. I had the absolute honor of walking Ahva for the past six years, and in that time, she brought so much joy, laughter, and love into my life.

She had the most beautiful, silly personality—a true greyhound through and through. She always made me laugh with her antics, and she brought such peace to my life with her calm, loving presence. She adored everyone she met, and everyone who met her loved her right back.

Ahva was unexpectedly diagnosed with bone cancer, and her mom made the brave, loving decision to help her go peacefully rather than allow her to suffer in pain and lose her quality of life. I know it was the right choice—but my heart is absolutely shattered.

Thank you, Ahva, for the beautiful memories, the tail wags, the love, and for simply being you. I’m so grateful for every walk, every moment, and every goofy grin. You were deeply loved—and you always will be. 💫

Run free, sweet girl. You’ll always have a special place in my heart. I love you💔🐾
