Thank you to everyone who commented, shared, and offered advice on my previous post. Apparently, I walked into court with enough optimism and YouTube law school credentials to be dangerous.

The State presented its case. I did my best impression of a self-represented attorney and even dropped two Connecticut cases during closing arguments... one that was nolled and another that made national news without anyone getting so much as a ticket. I thought I had something cooking.

Magistrate Michael Weber politely reminded me that prosecutors and police have wide discretion, and unfortunately, his decision wasn’t inspired by my legal research.

So I did what any defeated farmer would do. I went to the farm, released the goats and chickens, laid down in the grass, and stared at the sky contemplating all my poor life choices. The livestock, however, seemed entirely unimpressed by my courtroom loss.

Weeping may endure for a night, BUT joy cometh in the morning. The work continues. And apparently, I now have a law degree from the University of Hard Knocks.

Onward and upward. 😂🐐🐔

Guilty.

Today we lost the case over the Great Thanksgiving Goat Escape. Animal Control, local police, prosecutors—the whole team showed up to make sure justice was served against 10 goats who briefly exercised their freedom.

The farm work continues, and the guilty parties are currently on punishment.

To the towns and agencies that support farmers instead of treating them like criminals for being farmers—thank you.

Honestly, I can see why people stop farming and why farmland keeps getting sold off. Some days it feels like the easier option is to put the 14 acres on the market and call it a day.
