National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day is August 22.
This day aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular veterinary care for cats and encourage cat owners to schedule appointments for their feline companions. It is a reminder that cats can often hide signs of illness, making routine checkups essential for early detection and prevention of health issues.

National Check the Chip Day is today. This day encourages pet owners to ensure their pets are microchipped and that the contact information associated with the microchip is up to date. It's an initiative by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) to promote pet safety and reunite lost pets with their families.

August is National Pet Immunization Awareness Month
DISEASE PREVENTION: Vaccinations protect pets from serious and potentially fatal diseases like rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and feline leukemia.
COST- EFFECTIVENESS: Preventing diseases through vaccination is more cost-effective than treating them.
PUBLIC HEALTH: Diseases like Rabies can be transmitted to humans, so vaccinating pets also helps protect public health.
LEGALLY REQUIRED: Rabies is legally required by law for all pets weather they go outside or not.
Always consult with your veterinarian regarding your pets specific life style and which vaccines are best for them.

Does your pet have fear, anxiety or stress when it comes to vet visits?
Some signs are licking lips, yawning, panting, hiding, excessive shedding, won't take treats, ears pinned back, tail tucked.
When pets are less stressed at the vet, they are more likely to cooperate during exams and procedures. A calmer pet allows for more accurate physical examinations and assessments along with making their visit more positive, comfortable & safe.
If your pet isn't a fan of coming to see us, let us know when making the appointment. We can possibly send home some medications prior to their appointment to help.

July 15th is National Pet Fire Safety Day. According to the National Fire Protection Association, 500,000 pets are affected by house fires each year. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe.
SUPERVISE OPEN FLAMES- Candles, fireplaces, and stovetops are among the most common sources of home fires. Pets may knock over a candle or pan on the stove, setting the stage for the flames to jump to a flammable agent such as curtains. If you leave home, make sure to extinguish all flames.
FIRE-PROOF YOUR HOME- Cats often chew on loose wires, which poses not only a fire hazard to your pet but also an electrical one. Hide all wires and secure all lamps, which can be knocked over by a climbing cat or running dog.
CHECK SMOKE DETECTORS REGULARLY
MAKE OR PURCHASE A PET ALERT WINDOW STICKER
CREATE A PLAN- Creating a fire safety plan is critical in case a fire breaks out while you are home. Identify exit points for every room of the house. Make sure all members of the household have practiced safely evacuating your pet. Plan a rendezvous point in case of separation.
MICROCHIP YOUR PETS- In case your panicked animal runs away from your home, rescuers, or you during the chaos of a fire, chances of having them returned to you are greatly increased if your pet is microchipped.

WALK IN MONDAYS
Please know that while we have posted Monday hours, 8am-11am & 1:30pm-6pm, we will stop taking clients once we are at capacity. This applies to both the morning and afternoon hours. If you call on a Monday and ask if we are able to take clients, know that the answer applies only to that moment as we cannot predict the volume 5 minutes after that.
A sign will be posted on our front door that we have reached capacity and we are no longer taking walk ins. We will try to post to our facebook as well.

***NEED OUR FAMILY’S HELP***
As we posted last week, we would likely have to close early yesterday for our walk-in day because of lower staff after the holiday weekend. We try our best to maintain our posted Monday hours, but sometimes it is not possible with limited staff. Truth be told, Dr. Sleeper is trying to have some family time, but we have been slapped in the face on this one. The following information is the reason that we may have to stop our walk-in days, but we would appreciate your help on this one.
We had a client get very upset yesterday evening that we were unable to see him after he called to see if we were walk in. Our staff was telling anyone that called that they needed to come immediately because there is a possibility of us closing. Maybe at the time he called, we were still seeing clients, but by 5pm we were overwhelmed. So, we totally understand him being upset, and fully want him to be able to voice his opinion, but he has now started a recruiting campaign to spam us with 1 star google reviews, as well as a smear campaign wherever else he can, which is fine, and completely his prerogative. I’m sure many of you have seen things today. If you guys would like to help us, please take pics where he is soliciting 1 star google reviews with identifying info and email to us at [email protected]. Again, he is totally entitled to share his opinion/experience, but believe it is important that you share your personal experience and not solicit others to provide a review for a place they have never been.
We never want to disappoint anyone, so we will be adjusting our Monday hours until we can determine if walk-ins are good for business. We are not perfect by any stretch, but do not think this is justified. There is a reason that clinics with walk-in hours are almost non-existent, and this is it.
We have NEVER solicited google reviews, but if you feel led to, we wouldn’t mind hearing some good reviews. Sometimes it is hard for us and our staff to see that their hard work actually makes a difference. We know we mess up sometimes, but everyone in our building really does care about the animals we serve.
