SDIT Ale from California’s Carson Animal Shelter is simply unbothered by all the distractions Andy Lopez Dog Training throws at him.
Service dogs must go everywhere with their handler and stay focused despite all that life throws at them. Finding the right dog for the job is one of the toughest modalities in the working dog world.

A huge shout out to everyone at Associated Humane Soc.-Newark for being so welcoming, reaching out and allowing our trainer Jessica Quigley Building a Reliable K9 - NJ📍 to spend enough time to do a proper evaluation on two dogs today.
Thank you Rare Breed Dog Treats for donating plenty of treats to us for training and evaluations like this!
Based on our trainers recommendations, we decided to pull both dogs today for our program!
What are the things that we look for in a service dog candidate?
✅ great environmentals
✅ food motivated
✅ allows all over touch, handling and manipulation
✅ dog neutrality
✅ engagement with person v external stimuli (the hardest to see in the shelter environment.

We also looked for large dogs that could comfortably work in mobility as many of the veterans on our waitlist require counter balance and bracing.

On America’s 250th Birthday, we celebrate the veterans that have given service so that we may live under the flag of opportunity. Rescue 22’s mission has given us the opportunity to meet and serve some of these true American patriots by providing life saving service dogs, custom trained to meet their individual needs. As part of our mission we source the majority of our dogs from shelters and rescues. Today we feature one of the California shelters Stanislaus Animal Services Agency we work with, proving how many incredible worthy dogs await a home.

To our friends and supporters Rare Breed Dog Treats thank you for your dedication to America’s veterans and for supporting our life changing service dogs and educating more people about the difference they can make, achieving independence and individual goals.

To all of our friends, we wish you a safe 4th of July. May we never take the gift of this country and the sacrifices of our veterans for granted. Let freedom ring! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
