Once upon a time I would have looked at a day with 3 dogs on the schedule and thought I surely was not doing enough. I thought constantly saying "I'm too busy with work!" meant I was really successful, but I don't really feel that way anymore.

What's the point of building a successful career if you don't have any time left to enjoy the life you worked so hard to create?! In fact, I literally started my 10th year in business by technically "downgrading" from my bigger, more powerful Dyna van to the small, battery powered Pet Pro+ van as an intentional way of giving myself permission to do LESS.

I still have 3 busy days per week, with my assistant and I cranking out 7-8 dogs Monday-Wednesday-- except cranking out isn't the right word because our closed, well-maintained, curated client list allows us to focus on each dog on our table without rushing to the next one.

But I really appreciate the 3-dog days, the breathing room, the free time, and having built a business that fits into my life instead of becoming me while life.

No love in the AOPB contest this weekend but I also wasn't happy with how my trim came out!! I really struggled with visibility on this stage (like physically being able to see what I was doing with the lighting) as well as the humidity at the venue. I am extra impressed by all of the grooms done by my competitors!! I'm excited to try again in October and am slowly curating a little collection of "just in case" tools like a little light and my own table risers. 🙂

Thanks so much to these new groomers that stopped by the Wag'n Tails booth to watch my demo on Scott the Bichon!! We put this little old man into a fun Asian fusion inspired trim. He barely looks like the same dog! I think my favorite thing about this demo was that we got to use a dog you would typically see at any grooming salon, and put him in something different and fun.

I was able to give away an Andis Excel 5 Speed clipper and my favorite Graveyard Shniff facial 🥰

This is how I bathe a Schnauzer as a professional mobile dog groomer!!

These same techniques can be applied to literally any breed, professionally or at home.

The blueprint is simple:
1. A priming shampoo (something specific to the dog's skin needs to get them really clean!)
2. Rinse + repeat shampooing (you can use the same or something specific to your coat needs, like volumizing or whitening!)
3. A facial (I like to rinse + repeat the facial for every shampoo I do)
4. A conditioner that you brush through
5. Towel dry + apply appropriate brushing sprays

Be sure to let each step sit for a couple of minutes to allow the products to pe*****te + do what they're meant to do!

I bathe all of my dogs in filtered water. 🙂 Since I am a mobile groomer, the filter system is attached to the hose I fill water from daily.
