Great communicators don't wing it. A strong opening. A clear structure. A moment of silence at the right time. These aren't presentation tricks; they're practical tools everyone should use to help an audience stay focused and take something meaningful away.

Whether it's on a Zoom call, a client meeting, or a stage, great communicators tailor their approach. Christine Barney, CEO and Co-founder of rbb Communications, penned an article for Forbes Agency Council, outlining five key points for delivering impactful communication.

Prep with purpose. Ensure you know who you're talking to, why you're there, and what the setting requires. That context shapes everything.

- Read the room, and the format. What works for a keynote might not work on a Zoom call. Adjust your approach to suit the situation.

- Stick to a clear arc. Start strong, stay focused, and close in a way that leaves a lasting impression.

- Be intentional with delivery. How you say something matters. Make eye contact, vary your tone, and use body language that reinforces your message.

- Practice out loud. Record yourself. Watch it, listen to it. You'll catch the small things that could turn off an audience—and find moments to make your message sharper.
