Happy Sunday to you all!

It took a few weeks, but we have some better shipping rates negotiated with a new company. I may offer fedex and ups while I decide which company I prefer, I have a long and happy history with Periship but I’m not sure yet if they will be able to match rates.

That being said overnight shipping rates have gone up and there’s just no way around it. I don’t like having to raise the price of the corals we grow to accommodate for the extra cost so I plan to offer shipping rates that are pretty much at cost.

As our farm and inventory grows (Goddess willing) I will continue the practice of adding free frags to orders to help make up for the fuel costs that are driving up shipping prices.

I will plan to open the website back up in early May, everything is already loaded and ready to go. Thank you all for your patience while I have been sorting out the details. We are located in Western NY now and if you would like to see our farm in person that is an option. 🤓

Seven months in and I’m super happy with the progress. Everything is growing amazing under the Viparspectra LEDs, I can truly keep whatever I want nowadays and that feels great after a few years of struggling with the old setup. These have even been spread and par intensity than my Radions. Proof that you don’t need expensive lights to grow beautiful corals.
Just patience and a steady hand, be consistent with your care and water chemistry testing and anything is possible.

My leather corals came with me from Miami and most of them are 4 - 7 years in my care.

Calcium 440, Alk 8.5, Magnesium 1300, phosphates trace, nitrates trace, salinity 1.025
I dose 4 ml of iodide per week, spot feed reef blizzard twice a week, water change about 15% once a month, run my skimmer 6 hours at night about 3 days a week. I only have three small fish and feed a little pellets once a day for the clown. Mandarin is PHAT. 🤓

About a year and a half ago I ordered some corals from Indonesia and a small patch of these green star polyps came in on a soft coral combo rock. I didn’t think much about it, just figured they were regular gsp and didn’t pay any attention. I stole most of the corals from the combo rock to sell and this patch kept growing.

After about six months I had about a 3 inch patch, I noticed they were even brighter than my regular gsp, slower growing, and seemed to be growing branchy tubes. Now I know that regular gsp will become sort of branchy on parts of it, but this thing puts out long tubes all over and really doesn’t encrust on the glass at all.

Even the frags I make start out encrusting and then the new tissue becomes all tubular. It’s pretty darn cool. Looks like I have a big, wooly green spider in my reef tank. 🤓

I’m chatting with three different companies about overnight shipping rates this week; one thing I can say is in the 7 months that my business has been paused shipping prices have gone up A LOT. It’s kind of depressing. I wish shipping corals second day air was an option, but it really isn’t most of the time.

I’m guessing that many other online coral stores are just taking a loss on shipping fees in order to encourage sales. Here’s hoping that one of these shippers comes through with cheaper rates. 🫣

It seems like just yesterday that this tank was empty, seven months later and it’s coming along really nicely. It’s great to be able to keep whatever I want again thanks to my awesome Viparspectra leds. After 24? years in the hobby it feels good that I still know how to do this. 🤓

Happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.

Our website has corals again and is almost ready to open. The shipping company who we were using for the past few years has raised their rates sky high so I’m currently talking with some other good companies to get better rates. Once that is finalized in a couple days I can finally reopen the website for sales. In the meantime enjoy some updated photos from our reef. 😊

Happy Spring my dear reefing friends!

The really cold weather is mostly behind us and I am finally adding new corals to the website after the big move last summer. There aren't many coral farmers in my area of NY so I have been focusing on growing corals out from frags, which is time consuming, but worth it.

Over the next few days more stuff is going to pop up on Reefgardener.com I'll announce when it's all ready to go.

Thanks for your patience with my big and wonderful life changes lately and for all of you who have stuck with me over the 21+ years I've been growing and selling corals. Even though moving from FL to NY was a huge mission it has been really rewarding to see the progress of coral growth now that I'm settled in. :)

When my reef tank was done cycling 5.5 months ago, I found a really good deal on a 29 gallon biocube that had a handful of corals and this derasa clam for sale. The clam was about 6 inches at the time but only opening about halfway because of the tank size. Since adjusting to my reef and stronger lighting it’s really opened up and done some major growing. It’s taken a long time to settle down and moved around a lot which earned it the name Rocky. Now it’s about 8 inches and looks great. In the past few weeks it’s stopped moving around so much and appears very happy. Going to be fun to see what size it maxes out at. 🤓

Just a little video on the fly, obv not trying that hard to sound sexy. It feels so good to be able to keep acropora again, my Viparspectre leds are kicking ass and honestly I don’t think I’ll ever waste money on any other fixtures in the future. I only have these running at 65% and they are growing coral so well.

Oops we did it again…. All my small hill practice over the past few weeks has really paid off, I’m no longer nervous going up and down small hills. Good snow with no ice makes all the difference in the world, our skis are also specifically for cross country skiing and have metal edges that into the snow to give better grip. The snow looked just like whipped cream at this park, it’s hard to convey in photos. We were the only ones out there. It was 8 degrees but it felt great. 🥶

Going to PA for more skiing today.
