Apples and alpacas no longer exists. I have been trying to delete it but haven't had any success. l could use some pointers. My animals and farm were sold over two years ago. The farm is now known as Hickory Hill Orchard. My new web site is called GrandviewAlpacaFiberStudio.com. (I have the fiber but no animals). I do miss my animals but it was time for me to retire as the orchard was wearing me down. I can't even grow apple trees here as the deer population is quite large. They are so brave they come right up to my house at night and eat my tulips. Right now I have my tulip leaves covered with cedar branches. Unfortunately I will have to remove them as soon as the weather stays warm. By the way I down sized and live in the middle of 19 wooded acres in the hills and woods of Brown County Indiana. The population of the entire county is less than the population of Mexico, MO. Our County seat is Nashville which has a population of 1025, which is larger than Auxvasse, MO. Artist and craftspeople live all over our county. Look us up on the web and also check out Brown County Music Center.

I am shearing alpacas on April 23 and 24 which is a Saturday and Sunday. I have a professional shearing coming in to do approximately 70 alpacas. I need lots of volunteers to help. There are several jobs for the older person to do, such as record information on each alpaca as they are sheared ie. (shots given, toe nails trimmed, if teeth have been trimmed and weight of fiber). Help is also needed at the shearing table to trim toe nails and give shots. (If Vet students come they usually help out in that area). Fiber is also sorted as it comes off the animal. If one is interested they can learn how that is done. If you want to work with the alpacas in the barn, you will be taught how to gently corral and halter an alpaca and lead them to the first cleaning station which is blowing debris and dirt out of their fiber. They are then lead to a brushing area where they are brushed and grass and burrs are picked out. It is important to clean them well, once they are sheared the cleaning process becomes more difficult. After they are cleaned they are lead out of the barn area to the shearing shelter. Once sheared they are lead out to pasture where their halters are removed and they are free to go. Once an alpaca is sheared the others always have to check them out as they look completely different. A+ Students, here's your chance to have a fun day and earn some credit. Lunch is provided for all that help. If you would like to volunteer for a few hours or all day please call me anytime at 573 721 1415. Working hours are usually 8 to 6 p.m. both days. Critical times to help is usually Sunday afternoon until we finish up. This is a RAIN or SHINE activity.. . .
