We'd like to say this doesn't happen very often, but, when it does, it still weighs heavy on our hearts.
🐾 A Message About Patience and Adoption
Adopting a rescue animal is an act of love — but it also requires commitment, patience, and understanding.
Every so often, we see people give up on an animal within days because things aren’t “perfect” right from the start. We do our part: we vet adopters, conduct meet-and-greets, even ask people to bring their current pets — and still, we find ourselves getting dogs returned after a week because of challenges that could be worked through with just a little time and effort.
Let’s not forget: these animals have been through a lot. Some have been abandoned, mistreated, or bounced from home to home. Starting over in a new environment is overwhelming and stressful — even for the most loving dog.
We wish there was a magic test to guarantee an adopter has the patience and heart to stick with it. But short of requiring a lie detector, a blood sample, and your firstborn child — we have to trust people’s intentions. That trust gets harder to hold onto every time an animal is returned for not being "easy enough."
So we ask this, from the bottom of our hearts:
If you’re ready to adopt, be ready to work through the rough patches, to give your new family member time to settle in, and to give yourself the chance to see the rewards that come with patience and dedication.
These animals deserve more than a “trial run.” They deserve a real chance.
