Riley’s PUPdate 🐾

Wow… 🤯 we have come SO far.

When Riley first came to us, she was scared of pretty much everything — obstacles, things being moved or changed in her home/yard, new environments, and especially…

🙋‍♀️PEOPLE.

People were by far her biggest hurdle. She would hide behind her owner or handler, shake, and try to get away. If someone even looked at her, she would become overwhelmed. She would even bark at people from the car.

Fast forward to now… 👏

We’ve taken Riley into all kinds of new environments and challenged her in different ways — including swimming and working with weighted backpacks. Giving her a job has been HUGE for this busy girl’s mind.

And one of our biggest wins? Meet & greets with people! ❤️

She’s learning that people aren’t something to fear, and she’s becoming more confident with new experiences. Those obstacles and changes that used to completely overwhelm her? They’re no longer such a big deal.

We are SO proud of this girl. 🥹

Behavior modification takes time, patience, consistency, and figuring out what works for that particular dog. There’s no magic fix and no one-size-fits-all approach.

You meet the dog where they’re at, build confidence, build trust, and keep moving forward.

And Riley is doing just that. 🐾❤️

🐾 👻 Ghost PUPdate! 👀

We have been focusing HARD on Ghost’s off-leash skills, handling distractions out in public, and especially his sit command.

All 3 of these things have been exceptionally challenging for Ghost.

Ghost has gotten away from his owners a few times and is known for taking off and running as fast as he can whenever he gets the chance. 🏃‍♂️💨 So, a HUGE part of his training has been working on his recall and teaching him that coming back when called is not optional.

Ghost also has a pretty serious prey drive. 👀🐴🐱 We’ve actually been utilizing Julia the horse and Puma the cat during his training to help work on impulse control. The goal is teaching Ghost that just because something is moving doesn’t mean he gets to chase it!

Out in public, Ghost is a very nervous dog. Seeing people can be overwhelming for him and he can become scared and unsure of himself. We’re working on building his confidence while teaching him how to appropriately handle those situations instead of reacting to them. ❤️

And then there’s the SIT. 😂

This has honestly been one of Ghost’s hardest commands. His previous idea of “sit” was basically staring at you and deciding if he felt like listening. If he didn’t want to sit… well, he wasn’t going to. 😂

We’re changing that.

Ghost is learning that listening to a command means following through, even when he would rather do something else. We’re working on structure, consistency, impulse control and confidence — and he is making progress!

He still has plenty of work to do, but that’s exactly why he’s here. 💪🏼🐾
