Phantom K9 Training

Phantom K9 Training Obedience and protection dog training based in Arizona. It all started with Phantom, a Craigslist pup I got right out of high school.

The time I spent training him sparked a passion for the craft and helping other achieve a strong bond with their dogs. Though he’s no longer here, I feel his presence and influence and his memory continues to inspire me daily. Phantom’s legacy lives on in every dog trained, every lesson learned, and every life changed through the work we do. Inspired after rescuing Phantom, I began working with lo

cal Arizona rescues and shelters. I wanted to make a difference for the dogs who struggled to find homes because of complex behavioral challenges. Over time, the passion for rescue work grew, and we continue to work with the rescue dogs daily. Who knows, you may even adopt your next pup from a local shelter and receive pro bono training! Today, operating out of our facility in Mesa, our growing team has trained hundreds of dogs from all different breeds, backgrounds, and lifestyles. Every dog has unique challenges and needs, and their training reflects that. No dog or day is the same at Phantom K9, and that’s exactly how we want it to be!

Imagine that… 🫣😆

Hanging with my girls and Maybelle ❤️

Here is one of the first interactions Maybelle had with my dog when she got here.

We weren’t so sure what she was like with other dogs but turns out, with the right guidance and the right dog, she does amazing.

This play is healthy, largely in part too, that the dogs are going “ back and forth” and that I have the control to stop it immediately if needed.

Many people ( imo) are worried about the wrong thing.

I train so that I have means to give my dogs that best life. Obedience is just an avenue to accomplish that. Sometimes, I forget why I’m doing it. Getting out with your dogs and letting them experience life is always a healthy reminder.

What I said was...

if you’re going to teach the dog to be aggressive on command ( doing protection) you should teach them to be friendly on command as well. It’s your responsibility to show the dog both sides of the picture, and continue to create a stable dog.

I got comments ranging from how they thought that was a terrible idea to, to people claiming that they wouldn’t want anyone touching their personal protection dog.
To be fair, a majority of the comments agreed with what I was saying and thought it was the right move to show the dog both sides of the picture.

What did you think?

I understand your fear of letting the dog off leash, train hard so that fear goes away.

Layla came here for a short period of time ( 10 days) but we were able to make some significant progress.

If you notice in the first videos, the ears are pinned back and she's uncomfortable being next to another dog. At the end, she's going full out play with another dog.

She was very hesitant around other dogs, she wasn't going out of her way to start anything but was happy to correct them for putting any pressure on her. She made a lot of progress in 10 days!

Never ever understood this argument. If anything, the dog is easier to train.

Dog trainers flock towards " high drive" dogs for that reason.

Just because your dogs are out of control, doesn’t mean mine will be.

I always ask my dogs to DOWN, and I’m prepared to handle any BS from the other dogs. I don’t want my dogs to think that’s their responsibility.

Most people have zero concept of this. Anyone that spends a lot of time around animals will innately understand this concept.

It’s one of the reasons your dog trainer is great with your dog, but the dog gives you a hard time.

Think with your rational brain, not emotions when it comes to your dog.

A little about Richard…

Nobody has ever pet or handled this dog succesfully. He’s had to be completely sedated for grooming, vet care, etc

He will bite anything or anyone that approaches him, and has lost many teeth in the process.

I could not get him out of the kennel without being bit, and he has gone after multiple dogs too since I’ve had him ( it’s only been a short period of time)

I can now, approach the kennel without him biting, get him out of the kennel, pet him everywhere ( but the face) and he’s not attacking my dogs.
He has on occasion, offered some form of affection to me but was unwilling to accept any back.
Progress is slow, but it’s happening.

Welcome Maybelle!

Maybelle has been here for a little time and she's doing great. She can be very reactive towards other animals, we weren't sure how she would do with other dogs ( we've mostly resolved this issue already) and we are putting some good obedience on her. She's an awesome girl!
