🐠 Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes before a fish is ready for you to take home?

There’s a lot that goes into getting new fish into the shop, from coordinating shipments across the world to acclimating them, monitoring their health, and making sure they’re eating well before moving them into our main tanks.

Even the individual cubicles you see in the shop serve a purpose. They give newly arrived fish their own space to settle in while still receiving water from our main filtration system.

🐠 Some fish have some pretty wild ways of protecting themselves.

From venomous spines and scalpel-like tails to poisonous slime coats, these fish have developed some seriously unique defense mechanisms.

🐠 Not all cichlids are aggressive!

Rainbow Cichlids are a peaceful freshwater option that can do great in community setups with compatible fish like tetras, livebearers, and Corydoras.

They’re also relatively easy to care for, stay around 4 to 5 inches, and can handle the harder water we often see here in Arizona.

🌿 Looking for an easy plant to add to your freshwater aquarium?

This low-tech plant doesn’t need a ton of light or CO2 to do well. It grows slowly, gets a little larger than some other low-tech plants, and looks great attached to rock or driftwood.

It can also be a little harder to find, so when we have them in stock, it’s a great time to grab one!

💧🐠 Can you actually over-filter your aquarium?

For most fish-only freshwater and saltwater tanks, extra filtration usually isn’t the problem. The bigger concern is having too much water flow for the size of the aquarium and the fish inside it.

Reef tanks and planted aquariums are a little different. Too much filtration can strip nutrients your corals, plants, and beneficial bacteria rely on. It’s all about finding the right balance between clean water, proper flow, feeding, and nutrient levels.

The key? Test your water and adjust your filtration based on what your aquarium actually needs.

👑🐠 There’s a reason they call this one the Majestic Angelfish.

With its bright orange, deep purple, and electric blue coloration, this fish can easily become the centerpiece of a saltwater aquarium. But that beauty comes with some important care requirements.

Majestic Angels can grow around 10 to 12 inches, so we typically recommend a six-foot aquarium or larger. They also need a varied diet with meaty foods, seaweed, and sponge to help keep them healthy and looking their best.

🌈🐟 Looking for something a little different for your freshwater community tank?

Threadfin Rainbowfish, also known as Featherfin Rainbowfish, bring beautiful color and movement without taking up a ton of space. The males develop longer fins with more orange coloration, while the females have a softer yellow appearance.

These fish do best in schools, prefer softer water, and pair well with peaceful tank mates like small tetras, dwarf rasboras, and Corydoras. 🌿
