Ok all! Our new breed is the Mini Plush Lop

This breed is one I’ve wanted for YEARS. I love both Holland Lops and Mini Rexes so much, and I wanted something that had a bit of both of them; the ears like the hollands, and the fur like the Mini Rexes. But, unfortunately for me, most of the breeders for Mini Plush Lops live on the east coast. I am still in High school, so transporting wasn’t an option when I was first starting breeding due to lack of funds.

Every once in a while I’d find a Mini Plush Lop or two in AZ, but I would never hear back when I reached out. I joined all the MPL groups, and would always keep my eye out for anything near me, but the closest buns I ever found were in California. Recently, a breeder in AZ started breeding them. I had been keeping an eye on her buns and what she had available, but at that point, it just didn’t feel right to start a new breed.

I had enough on my plate, and I didn’t want to add anything that would make life more complicated. At this point, I had completely given up on my dream of having mini plush lops.

We recently stopped our mobile petting zoo, and with that, we have been deciding who stays and who goes with all the animals, including our rabbits. One of my rabbits, a Mini Rex named Ella, I had always given the excuse of her staying that ā€œshe’s great in the petting zoo,ā€ and she was! With us not doing the petting zoo, my mom suggested letting her go. In the past, the thing with our farm was that everything has a purpose. That can be for milk, eggs, protection, or more.

But here’s the thing about Ella: She is the sweetest bunny, but she will never be able to have babies. So does she have a purpose here beyond being a pet? No. But, I had an idea. What if I spay Ella, and then reach out to a breeder about a mini plush lop for a companion for her? Then I could have a mini plush lop, and keep Ella! I wouldn’t be able to breed them, but at this point I had given up on that anyways.

I was planning on waiting until fall, but then I saw a post about the breeder moving this summer, and downsizing. So I decided to reach out now, as I might not get a chance later. So I did, and she showed me her buck.. And then she said she had a breeding trio, and I asked for pictures. And as soon as I saw them, I knew I needed them to come here, and that this was finally my chance to breed Mini Plush Lops.

I had finally found homes for all of my pet hollands, and was down to three bunnies in the barn. Three more wouldn’t be a whole bunch of work, right? So I decided to go for it.

All that said, meet our Mini Plush Lop Trio:

Rhiannon’s Rabbitry Poptart (WE Blue Doe)

Rhiannon’s Rabbitry Maribel ( WE VC Chestnut Doe)

Little Plantation's Peter Pan (Opal Buck)

I am absolutely overjoyed to have these bunnies be a part of my program, and I am so excited for babies this fall/summer!

And don’t worry, Ella is still staying here, I love her too much to let her gošŸ˜‰

Ok all, the last few weeks have been chaotic, so I haven’t been posting much, but here’s a quick update

First, all of our buns we needed to rehome, both adults and babies, have found their new homes. Within the last few weeks, we have gone from around 16 rabbits to 5, and it’s been a big shift.

Next, we’ve been taking care of 3 kittens who got dumped, and we’ve been working super hard at getting them friendlier. Two of the three are very friendly, but the third is still wary of humans.

We had 3 litters due from May 16th-June 1st, and one didn’t have any, one hasn’t had them yet, and the third had them but decided she didn’t like them, and had them on the wire. Thankfully, I was moving cages and found them within an hour of them being born. Unfortunately, she is no longer taking care of them and is now trying to harm them. This said, they have been taken away from her.

The last few weeks I have also been trying to redo our rabbit area, and switch from hanging cages to stacking cages, and making sure it’s nice and cool for the rabbits for the summer. It definitely helps not having as many rabbits while I’m redoing it!

Lastly, we added a new breed! This is a breed that I’ve been wanting for YEARS, but at this point I had honestly given up on that dream, as until now, it was unrealistic. I’m not going to say what it is quite yet, as I want to give them their own post!

Lots of changes are happening over here, and we’re excited to share more soon!

This sweet girl is looking for a home again! Someone had put a deposit down on her, but we unfortunately haven’t heard back from them since she was 5 weeks old, despite multiple attempts to reach out. We let them know that if we didn’t receive a response by Friday evening, she would be available again.

She is now 9 weeks old and ready for her forever home! She is out of Ember and Nimbus. Message me for more info!

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me rehome my buns. This week, we have 5 different buns going to new homes, and then a few more have homes lined up and they will leave later this month. Right now, I have two, (possibly three) buns looking for a new home. I have one doe and one buck, and then a doe we still need to rehome. The buck is still a baby, and the doe is two years. Please message me for more information. The doe is the bunny pictured

This bunny is a perfect example of why I’ve loved breeding rabbits for pets so much. When breeding for pets, the focus is on producing beautiful, friendly bunnies with confident temperaments, rabbits that are curious, calm, and not easily spooked, rather than focusing mainly on structure and conformation Ember’s litter has been such an amazing example of this, especially this little boy.

This past week has been pretty chaotic for me, and I hadn’t been able to get these babies out for a few days. Normally they’re handled daily, so I always worry they’ll become more nervous or skittish if they miss out on attention for a bit.

But the second I let this boy out of his run, he immediately started climbing all over me, jumping onto my arms, my back, and demanding attention like no time had passed at all.

When I first started raising rabbits, I definitely had babies who would become less friendly after only a few days without handling. But as we brought in sweeter, more tolerant adults over time, we noticed the babies naturally becoming calmer and more confident too.

Ember has been with us for over a year now, and she’s consistently had some of the sweetest, most curious babies. And while socialization absolutely matters, genetics play a huge role, too. That’s something we still plan to prioritize moving forward. Even though we’re shifting toward breeding to the ARBA standard and showing rabbits, temperament will always matter to us just as much as type and structure.

This little guy is the perfect example of a confident, friendly bunny who is going to make an amazing companion for his new family.

We’ve truly loved raising pet rabbits, and while we’re excited for this next chapter and the goals we have for our program, we’re looking forward to continuing to raise rabbits with the same sweet personalities we’ve always loved so much.

All this said, we do have a few other litters that are not going to be bred to ARBA standard, but we're hoping to officially make the complete switch by this fall.

We should have some babies available this July, and then also some in August. If you are serious about having a bunny (and keeping it long-term), message me!

Ok everyone, I have a sad, but also exciting announcement.

I’ve decided to shift away from breeding rabbits as pets and instead focus on breeding toward the ARBA standard.

We’re also excited to venture into the world of showing rabbits.
This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot, especially this breeding season. Seeing how many of our babies have been rehomed or brought back only a few weeks after going to their new homes has been really hard.

I understand that unexpected things happen, and sometimes rehoming truly is necessary. But many of the rehomes I’ve seen have simply come from people losing interest. It’s really important to me that the rabbits I raise go to lasting, committed homes.

I feel that with rabbits going to people with experience in rabbits, 4H homes, and show homes, quick rehoming will become much less common. Every baby that leaves here has been loved and cared for by us.

Seeing them listed for sale again just weeks later is hard on us, and it also isn’t fair to them.

As we’ve bred more, I’ve realized something important: breeding rabbits simply as pets is not something I feel comfortable continuing.

Over time, I’ve seen how easily rabbits can be treated as temporary pets rather than lifelong commitments.

Please know that I am not opposed to breeding, this is simply a pattern I have seen with my rabbits. I will still have a few more litters available for pet homes, and we will still be open to placing rabbits as pets. However, we will be more selective about pet homes and will make sure families understand the level of commitment bunnies require.

Going forward, I want to focus on responsibly breeding rabbits that meet the ARBA standard and placing them in knowledgeable, committed homes.

That said, I will be letting a few of my adult rabbits, along with a few babies I held back, go, and that is the sad part. They are all very loved, so I will be very careful about where they go.

If you’re looking for a super sweet adult bunny or baby, feel free to message me.

Please note that prices may change as we move in this new direction.

Two bunnies I originally planned on keeping are now looking for their forever homes — meet Patches and Lumi šŸ’•

As I’ve been learning more about rabbit genetics and really thinking through my program, I’ve realized it makes more sense not to hold onto these two.

Patches is closely related to several of my current bunnies, so he wouldn’t be a good fit as a future breeding buck. And Lumi, as much as we absolutely adore her, is the same color as her mom and sister—both of whom are staying here. I told myself no more VM’s… but Lumi definitely made that a tough rule to stick to 🄹

These two are incredibly special, and I want them to find the perfect homes where they’ll be just as loved as they are here.
