We encourage this instinct by providing designated potty trays and gently guiding them toward good habits. These early lessons help create a strong foundation for future success. 🐾❤️

✨ What Happens at 4 Weeks?

• 👀 Vision is fully developed and puppies can recognize littermates, people, and familiar surroundings.

• 👂 Hearing is fully functional, and they respond to sounds, voices, and everyday household noises.

• 🐾 Walking becomes much steadier as coordination and balance continue to improve.

• 🎾 Playtime begins! Puppies start wrestling, chasing, pouncing, and interacting with their littermates.

• 🦷 Baby teeth are coming in, which means they may begin chewing on toys, bedding, and each other.

• 🍽️ Introduction to mush begins as they transition from relying solely on mom’s milk.

• 🚽 Early potty awareness develops. Puppies naturally begin moving away from their sleeping area to eliminate. We introduced the potty tray yesterday and they are already doing so well.

• ❤️ Social skills are forming. They learn important canine manners and communication from mom and littermates.

• 🧸 Curiosity explodes! Puppies become more adventurous and interested in exploring their environment.

• ✨ Personality starts to shine. You may begin noticing which puppies are confident, cuddly, playful, or independent.

At Bella Vida Bichons, 4 weeks is when we begin introducing our puppies to a potty routine using our grate system, gentle handling, household sounds, and new experiences to help build confident, well-adjusted companions. 🐾💕

🐾 Behind the Scenes at Bella Vida Bichons 🐾

While the puppies are enjoying a nap in their temporary playpen, I’m busy cleaning, sanitizing, and getting their nursery ready for the next big milestone…potty tray training! ✨

These pop-up playpens have been a lifesaver. They fold flat for storage, pop up in seconds, and give the puppies a safe place to relax while I work around the room. 🙌

As breeders, we’re constantly washing bedding, sanitizing surfaces, setting up potty areas, and making sure everything is clean and ready for our growing babies. 🩵
