Socialization is a BIG part of a dog's life. Desensitization is done by exposing a puppy/ dog to the environment in small increments & by helping them make positive associations to the things within it. Owners should never overexpose their puppy/ dog to new things, which could cause them to become sensitized. By forcing or overwhelming a puppy/dog you cause them to make a negative association to things in the environment. Which in turn can cause them to become more fearful &/or aggressive.

Puppies should receive a minimum of 1 set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class. ⁠

Puppy group classes are held in controlled environments, which are thoroughly disinfected after each class. ⁠

I worked with a couple & they had a standard male poodle puppy. He was the cutest white fur ball with energy for days! ⁠

They told me one session that the puppy loves to bark at the TV when there is another dog on the screen. They told me they would purposely put movies on that showed animals so everyone could have a fun night, the owners laughing & the puppy playing. ⁠

I recommended that they no longer continue that activity because it could turn into a negative behavior. They couldn't understand why it was such a bad thing if the dog is having fun. Shortly after this session, they discontinued their training with me.⁠

Several months later they came back to me for some more training. This time the "little furball" was an 85 lbs full-grown standard male poodle. I asked what brings them in & they told me he has broken 3 TVs because his barking has also been jumping at the TV & pushes on them over.⁠

Just because It's cute now, doesn't mean it's cute when they are their full-grown self. Just because they are small, doesn't mean they are not negative behaviors. Just because you think they wouldn't do that, doesn't mean they won't.⁠ Think about every possible outcome before letting them continue that behavior. ⁠
