Difference between a dog lover and a dog handler.

Most everyone who have dogs love them. We wouldn’t have them if we didn’t at least like them. But the difference in just loving a dog and being a handler is the same difference as a fun babysitter and an actual parent.

The baby sitter is in charge of safety, feeding, caring, and just loving the kids they babysit. But a parent is in charge of raising their children to be well behaved, share their toys, listen when told what to do, be respectful, their safety, make sure they are fed, and make sure the kids know they are loved.

Creating a well behaved child or in this case a well behaved dog, it takes a firm but loving hand. Our dogs need discipline, they need guidance, the need boundaries in addition to love. Just as a pack leader in a wolf pack is in charge of protection and making sure the pack is fed. The pack leader also must make sure each member of the pack knows their boundaries and limitations which makes the pack stronger.

We love our dogs, they love us, that is why we have them. But in order for our dogs to be truly happy we need to teach them our rules and boundaries which help them make our pack stronger.

If you struggle with being that handler that you want to be to your dogs please message me and we can set up our first training.

Dog training tip:
Talking to your dog is not a bad thing to do especially after a long day. However there is a difference in talking to your dog and commanding/directing your dog. When giving a command like “sit, stay, come, drop, off” etc you are directing the dog to perform an action. Teaching your dogs these commands is literally teaching them a new language.

It’s easier to learn “sit, stay, come” vs “come over here and sit down and don’t move right now”

Be mindful that our dogs want to please us, but if we over complicate a direction/command by talking to much, we will only confuse the dog. This will cause us more frustration which ends up with us giving up on training or sometimes just yelling at the dog.

Please feel free to call, text, or message me with any questions or to set up a dog training in your home.

Working with a couple new dogs. The owners said the dogs jump and bark at new people in the home. When I got the dogs the day before this video they barked at my year old son. Now watch as they respect his space and allow him to move freely. It is my job as a dog handler/owner to make sure my animals are respectful and if they feel uncomfortable with someone’s presence (my son) they are to get up and move. Likewise it is also my job as a parent to make sure my children show respect and provide proper space to our dogs.

Got my new business cards in. Please text or call if you have any questions.

This is Max (my nephew) and Diesel (10 month old German Shepherd). Max was just 6 years old at the time of this picture. And I had only had diesel for 3 weeks at the time. A month prior to this, Diesel killed his original owners' neighbors dogs, he had bitten 3 people by the age of 8 months old, and was set to be euthanized.

This is what some simple respect training can do for a dog. Don't get me wrong, Diesel was still working over several things but aggression was not one. We are not our dogs friends, we are their alpha's. We need to show them we are worthy of that role in order for them to respect us as alpha. When we treat our dogs as our children or friends they do not see us as the alpha, they see us as either equal or subordinate to them. That is what caused Diesel to take over as alpha. He is not a bad dog, he just didn't respect his original owners enough to allow them that role.

I can help you with your dogs to gain their trust and respect as alpha in your home. Call or text me today at (480) 276-4705
