We’ve now reached the point of the summer in Arizona where the temperature is going to be consistently in the 110s! 🥵🔥

Although it’s blazing hot outside, it’s still important to fulfill our dogs even if it means making some adjustments like waking up earlier to go for a walk or adding more activities into your daily routine this summer to keep your dog stimulated! What are some of your favorite things to do with your dog in the summer?

Some bonus activities that didn’t make the list:
• Make an indoor obstacle course using what you already have like tables and chairs.
• Take your dog to the lake to cool off!
• Do an indoor training session to refine their skills or learn new ones!
• Puzzle toys, snuffle mats, lick mats, and kongs!

Meet Basil! 🌿
This boy is a little cutie with a b***y 🍑 but was very stubborn to work with. Like many dogs who come into our program, he didn’t know any commands and got away with a lot of things at home. It was super important to not just teach Basil basic obedience, but to also show his owner how to properly work with him.

Meet Maddy! 💖
She’s a sweet lab mix who’s about 10 months old. Maddy came in for a 3-week board and train. She quickly picked up the basics, so we spent most of her time during the program focusing on advancing her skills and adding distance, duration, and distractions to her commands. This girl is so smart!

Meet Raya! 🐾
This girl was one of the most difficult dogs I’ve worked with so far, but also the most rewarding. Raya understood the commands we taught her, but it was unclear in the beginning if she really knew what we were asking of her because she would often stay in her current position, even when we stimmed her with the e-collar. Many of the other dogs I’ve worked with would try to run away or turn around if they were trying to test you, but not Raya. She would just stay exactly where she was. When we increased the stim level, she eventually completed the command. Once we learned Raya’s thought process, it helped us better train her. Gonna miss this girl!

Meet Pepper! 🌶
This girl was so much fun to work with and truly one of my favorite dogs that I’ve met! Pepper came into the board and train program with her owners’ goals of having an “off” switch, learning how to remain calm, following commands, learning impulse control, controlling her excitement, and bettering her leash skills.

This girl was so used to getting her way and stepping into the leadership role in the household because her owners didn’t know how to properly lead her. This led to her testing boundaries during training and trying to find a way out. But once she realized that she was no longer going to get out of things, she became such an obedient dog!

Meet R***r! ✨He is a 4 month old Belgian malinois mix, and one of my favorite pups that I’ve ever worked with! He is incredibly intelligent and so much fun! He was able to quickly learn the basics, then we added distance and duration to his commands, and even worked on tricks! His owner wants to make him her service dog and a guy like R***r would be the best dog for the job!

This is my dog, Biggs. He’s struggled with fear/anxiety and leash reactivity since before the day I brought him home. I’ve worked hard to help him work through uncomfortable situations and to increase his confidence. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I’m so proud of him and the progress we’ve made together 🐶💖
