As a Certified trainer of 16 years, I realize there are many dogs of all ages that don't do well in group classes. Many are rescues, others have anxiety, fear or just may not feel safe and comfortable. I've worked with a male Great Pyrenees the past few weeks who displayed a few of these issues even though he wasn't a rescue. He's gone from not wanting to enter my building or yard to playing games and accepting petting and treats from me. The owner is as thrilled as am I for witnessing his progress and relaxation. This is not Sit, Stay, or Down but going through the history , planning small steps and working towards a final goal. Our goal is always for Better and not Perfect!

FREE educational programs , be proactive, not reactive!

Be a Tree: Educational PowerPoint presentation for children. This has been presented at The Pamlico County Library several times and was a big hit! Interactive program which lasts about an hour. Hand outs and Certificate of Attendance given to all children.

Defensive Handling: For those who walk their dogs in public. Learn leash skills, emergency U-turns, proper tools and how to keep your dog and yourself safe if confronted by a loose or aggressive dog. Be prepared before it happens, not when!

Next Level: For puppies 4 -10 months of age.
February 6-March 13. 10 am
6 week class $160

Class topics include: Focus, leash manners, basic obedience, socialization, polite acceptance to handling and grooming. This class is based on the AKC STAR puppy curriculum.

New Class: Introduction to Scentwork 5 week class $150
1/27 to 2/24 10 am

A nose is a terrible thing to waste! Did you know your dog's sense of smell may be up to 100,000x better than yours? Or that 10 minutes of sniffing equals 30 minutes or more of physical exercise?
Enroll your dog in this new class, have fun and let them sniff! Learn the basics of scentwork using valuable treats and the AKC recognized Leerburg scent kit.
For dogs of all ages, no prior training required. Limit 4 in class.

The emphasis of this class is to solidify foundational skills: Leash walking, Come, Stay and Leave It.

Recent graduates of APDT's CLASS (Canine Life and Social Skills)! This program prepares owners and their dogs to learn acceptable social manners and important cues ( come, stay, focus, leave it) for use in daily life situations. Lots of games, positive reinforcement and socialization are used for learning as dogs DO learn by association.
New classes begin January 5th and 7th,- make training a New Year's resolution!
