✨Patient Spotlight✨

Everyone meet Little Bit! Little Bit is a sweet and loving Shih Tzu who came to MACC today because her owners were concerned about some abnormal behavior. They noticed that she had been panting excessively and needed to urinate more frequently. They also mentioned that she was experiencing some hair thinning and extreme thirst and hunger. They promptly brought her in for an examination and bloodwork to get to the bottom of her symptoms. After running a blood test, Little Bit was diagnosed with Cushings Disease. This is a very common disease in middle aged to older dogs where their body produces too much stress hormone called cortisol. Thankfully, there is a medication that Little Bit can take to help manage her disease and help her feel more like herself. Little Bit is on the road to recovery thanks to her owner’s responsive and quick attention to her health!

We recommend running yearly bloodwork on all patients to help identify early stages of diseases such as liver disease, kidney disease, endocrine disorders, blood disorders, and even some cancers. Just like Little Bit’s case, early detection is key!❤️🐶🐾

While Mississippi is the #1 state for heartworm disease, it is very preventable! Make sure that your pets are on appropriate heartworm prevention, even in the winter months! Please call our office to schedule your routine vaccinations and preventatives.❤️🐶🐾

Our most recent AHS Heartworm Incidence Survey revealed some sobering stats. Heartworms are on the rise--in areas where they've always been and also in NEW areas.
