As Memorial Day weekend approaches, we want to share an important reminder with our community: this holiday is one of the busiest times of the year for stray-animal intake at shelters across the country.
According to recent shelter data, the day after Memorial Day is consistently one of the highest stray intake days of the year for both dogs and cats. Between travel, guests coming and going, outdoor gatherings, open gates, and loud noises, it becomes much easier for pets to become lost and frightened.
The good news? A few small steps can make a huge difference in keeping pets safe at home.
✔️ Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip information are up to date
✔️ Double-check gates, fences, and doors before gatherings begin
✔️ Create a calm, secure space for pets during parties and fireworks
✔️ Be extra mindful during busy holiday activities and travel
Memorial Day weekend should be full of happy memories, not missing pets. Thank you for helping keep our community’s animals safe, loved, and out of shelters this holiday weekend. 🐶🐱
