Everyone loves puppies! We recommend getting your puppy in with a groomer as soon as possible, especially if you’ve picked a breed that’s going to need regular grooming. Grooming can be stressful for pups who aren’t used to it, so it’s best to introduce them to the whole process as early as possible. We see doodles all day every day in our salon, and one question new pet parents always ask is: "what kind of brush do I need?"
Mixed breed dogs can have a wide range of hair or fur types, even on one dog! These different textures can often get tangled together and cause matting. Our favorite brush for most doodles is a slicker brush. These brushes come in a range of sizes, so we recommend getting one with long enough bristles to reach all the way to your pup's skin, this means longer bristles for thicker coated dogs! Once your doodle is thoroughly slicker brushed, go back over them with a greyhound comb to smooth that hair out and make sure you didn't miss any tangles.

How often should you get your dog groomed? Well it depends on your dog!
We usually recommend that breeds like poodles, doodles and yorkies that require haircuts come in every six to eight weeks, but monthly appointments can help control matts if you like your pup's coat left extra long!
For dogs like pitties or shepherds that don't typically get trimmed, we don't recommend bathing more than once a month unless you're using a super gently skin-friendly shampoo.
Of course, regular brushing is essential, and between-bath products like dry shampoos and puppy wipes can help buy you some time between visits! Ask an associate to show you our grooming accessory aisle next time you're in!

Got a big shedder? Come in for a Furminator to get all that loose fur out before your pup's winter coat fills in. For longer-haired breeds like golden retrievers and malamutes this can help prevent matting during those cold months and will make it easier to get all that thick Winter undercoat out next Spring!
