We post our OPEN HOURS MONTHLY on our page & on our store windows/door. The House of Mews in Memphis, TN is the dba for PUDDY TAT PROTECTORS, INC. Since 1994 Our all volunteer staff, directed by Elain Harvey, Founder, is one of the finest group of people, coming from all walks of life, & caring for our kitties on a regular basis daily, they show up at 7am (some earlier) & for approximatel

y 3 hrs. clean the whole store, clean cages, care for sick kitties, run errands, handles sales and adoptions during retail hours and head up our Annual 5k Walk/Run Meowathon Race as well as helping design/implement other types of fundraisers.

With the end of this weekend fast approaching, blue eyed Blanco was fighting off the Sunday scaries earlier today. He is a little over a year old. While he isn’t interested in being picked up/held, he does lean into pets. Blanco is very active, athletic, and insanely curious. Isn’t Habanero handsome? As the spiciest of his siblings, he more than deserved his name. When Habanero and his kitten brothers and sister were trapped and brought to HOM, they were very terrified and fearful. With the help of HOM visitors, many of our kitties become more socialized around humans…leading to becoming more adoptable and eventually in loving homes. All of Habanero’s siblings have found homes! HOM is open tomorrow, 11/2/2025, from 1-4pm. We would love to see you, whether interested in our adoption process or to just come by and help continue to socialize our more shy kitties like Habanero.

Now is the time to get those winter shelters ready‼️

🚨 STRAW ONLY!! NEVER USE BLANKETS OR HAY!! 🚨

🐈 Overstuff with straw. Just don't fill too much so kitty can't burrow in.

🐈 Put in an area out of direct wind.

🐈 Do not put food or water inside.....cats don't like to eat where they sleep.

🐈 Put tote off the ground if possible, on boards or even a pallet.

🐈 Check the straw periodically to make sure it doesn’t get wet. If moisture does get in, change with fresh straw.

STRAW vs HAY…

Straw will reflect body heat back to a cat and actually repels moisture. Straw is tough, thick, dry leftover stalks from crops. It's lightweight and golden in color. Straw has a hollow center which makes for great insulation (just like double pane windows).

Hay is green and heavy. Hay is typically used to feed animals, like horses. It absorbs moisture, making it damp, cold and uncomfortable for cats, and has the potential to get moldy.

How to remember the difference:

🔹 Straw is for sleeps, hay is for eats.

🔹 Straw is for strays, hay is for horses.
