All dog owners, remember that February 23rd is National Dog Biscuit Day! This day is also observed around the world as International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Get your canine companion a dog biscuit to celebrate. Go for a walk to burn off any extra calories or explore the varieties available. Maybe you’ll find a new treat your furry friend loves. We even have some homemade options to try.

Dog biscuits come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and flavors. They serve to reward a man’s best friend for good behavior as part of their training. Dog owners may also give a biscuit to show their canine companions just how much they love them, too. Sometimes, dog biscuits serve to deliver vitamins and medicines we may have difficulty getting our pooches to take otherwise.
Specialty treats offer dogs and their owners so much to chews from! Even dogs on restricted diets won’t have trouble finding a dog biscuit that’s gentle on their tummy. Others help keep teeth healthy and fresh, too! What better reward could you ask for?

Pieloch Dog Park Viera East is coming soon

We ordered the two post split rail fence today that will go around the playground area. It will arrive in about 2 weeks. Our crews will then start that installation as well as the chain link fence around the dog parks and the concrete pads for the bench seats, tables and sidewalks. Dave Bell with DBell General Contracting will be our main contractor we use to move dirt and build the hills and tunnels, install the water lines as well as other equipment to be built and designed. Things are moving forward good. There was s a lot of prework needed such as permit package, utility locations, pre-design work etc that goes into this before we even put a shovel in the ground. Stay tuned for continued updates that will be coming soon! 🦮🐾🐕‍🦺🐾🐩🐾 Rob Dale Tammie O'Hollearn Watts Melissa Goldman Steve Colasinski Michelle Webb Bobby Putnam Rodney Mize Edward Lee Daniels Jillian Brad Paul Alfrey

It is time to register for the 2021 Health First Mayors Fitness Challenge!

We are excited about this fifth-year anniversary of the Mayors' Fitness Challenge. The 2021 Health First Mayors' Fitness Challenge is a fun competition between municipalities in Brevard County to become the "Most Fit City."

Participants register as a part of their city or town's team and then submit their weekly minutes of exercise starting on February 6, 2021 (We will send you the link every Friday.) The team with the greatest average number of minutes and participation rate (participants/registrants) will win the challenge. Participants can register until the end of the challenge (March 27), but t-shirt registration will end on January 8, 2021.

Because of the pandemic, we ask teams to avoid scheduling gatherings. Individuals will input their minutes from individual workouts, walks, runs, biking, etc. We have also added private Facebook Groups for each team, and will be providing weekly virtual health and fitness education.

Each year, Health First sponsors a Great Weight Off in conjunction with the challenge. The GWO participants who lose the highest percentage of weight loss, male and female, will win $500.

All participants of the "Great Weight-Off" must be weighed in at a Health First facility between January 25 and and February 5. All participants must register online before January 8, 2021 (T-shirts are available while supplies last.)

When Melbourne Vice Mayor Paul Alfrey asked me if I wanted to help him build the Pieloch Dog Parks, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. It was my honor to work with Paul and the contractors and volunteers that poured a lot of sweat into both parks. The one photo shows the barren lot in the beginning of excavation. Also a huge thank you to the Pielochs for donating a significant amount to make sure these parks got built. Dave Bell with D Bell General Contracting was an enormous help. And the hundreds of volunteers throughout the months of the build. Thank you!

From Vice Mayor Paul Alfrey - thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors who helped bring my project to life!!!

Vice Mayor Paul Alfrey and myself (John Casey) have been asked why there is no splash pad in the small dog park. We did extensive research before building both dog parks and found that at least 11 breeds of dogs do not like water. All of those breeds were small dogs. Yours may be an exception. If you want your furry one to play on the splash pad, it looks like the early mornings or evenings may be the best time. Keep in mind that we tried to make the park pleasant for everyone. Brevard has never had these types of parks for dogs, so we hope that everyone works together to be able to take ownership of the park as their own, by getting to know each other. Our main goal was to see wagging tails and we believe we have more than accomplished this.
