A quick message from a vet professional who also keeps and breeds snakes ! I had a mistake that could have cost Coraline her life. I didn’t latch her tank properly and she got free. I have 3 cats. 3 very naughty cats. Thankfully my husband found her alive in the dish drying rack last night and probably saved her from a worse fate. Her tail was chewed on , she lost a good chunk of it and the bone was exposed. I immediately texted my amazing exotics vet who I work with to see what she recommended (Sunday night of course). She had me come in today to asses it and see if she needed to clean up the wound and suture it - which she did end up doing. The bone that I could see was not even attached to the rest of her just being held on by skin and muscle. 😢 I’ll be giving her antibiotic shots and keeping it clean until her sutures come out in 4 weeks or more. Reptiles heal much slower than we do and the wound could get worse despite our best efforts. All we can do it wait and see., but I will be kicking myself for this one for a while.
