We’ve been hearing a lot about the mRNA Rabies vaccine called Nobivac NXT. We understand everyone’s concern and would like to give the most accurate information possible.

- This vaccine is NOT currently approved for use in the United States. It is not allowed to be used on pets in the United States as of now.

- This is NOT the COVID-19 vaccine. mRNA vaccine is just a category that describe how the vaccine works. Just like a killed or modified live, mRNA is describing how the vaccine works.

- We do not currently, and do not plan on using this vaccine if it does become available in the United States. We have used the ImRab3 Rabies vaccine for years and will continue to do so as it is the brand that we trust.

We understand everyone’s concern. We do urge you to take what you see online with a grain of salt. Please consult your veterinary clinic directly to receive the most accurate information possible.

Summer may not technically be here, but it sure feels like it! That being said, we know that many of you (and your dogs) enjoy hiking in our beautiful mountain ranges!
Please remember to hike safely this summer:

🐻 Be bear aware! Keep an eye on your surroundings, carry bear spray (or a less-facebook appropriate, more lead heavy alternative).

🐶 Be sure that your pet doesn’t get lost! Make sure that your dog has a good recall if hiking off-leash. Be sure that your dogs collar has your information. Microchips can help identify who your pet belongs to if your pet is taken to the shelter after being lost.

🐍 Watch for rattlesnakes if hiking in the lower country! Contact us if you are interested in the rattlesnake vaccine. Seek immediate veterinary care if your dog is bitten.

💧 Stay hydrated and keep your pets hydrated too! Hydration helps combat heat exhaustion in dogs. Avoid letting your dog drink from stagnant water which may contain leptospirosis or harmful blue-green algae. Instead, seek running water or use a collapsible water bowl. (Running water such as streams or creeks still may contain harmful bacteria)

Brrrrr… Winter is finally here! ❄️

Don’t get me wrong, I love to see some moisture finally hitting the ground, but the calves may not be as happy about it.

With this wet and cold weather, make sure to check calves frequently!

A dehydrated calf is just as poor as a chilled calf, and they often go hand in hand. For $50, you can buy the supplies necessary to run IV fluids on a calf. Correcting dehydration is crucial!
