Bring cash to gamble!!!

Just so no one is expecting payouts like at the track or casino, here's an explanation of the gambling:

We'll have betting "windows" and an auction.
Betting windows: There will be three separate windows for Win(1st), Place(2nd), and Show(3rd). Tickets will be $2 each. For every ticket sold, $1 will go to LongRace4Tate, and $1 will go toward the pot. We will keep the pots separate for each window. The payout will be determined by the number of winning tickets sold for that window. Each window's pot will be split evenly among the number of tickets sold for the horse that won that window. So, if you place a bet for horse #7 to place, horse #7 places, and you're the only one who bet on that horse to place, you win the entire pot. But, if 10 tickets were sold for that same horse to place, the pot will be split 10 ways, and 1/10th of the pot will go to each winning ticket.
Auction: We'll auction off all of the horses. Each horse can be "bought" by only one person (or group of people if you want to pool your money). There will be one pot for the auction. If you "buy" a horse in the auction, you collect its winnings as follows:
1st place - 40% of the pot
2nd place - 20% of the pot
3rd place - 10% of the pot
4th place - 5% of the pot
(25% of the pot will go to LongRace4Tate)

Never heard of Long Race 4 Tate/Neutropenia/Ella Jewell Foundation but thinking about joining us for the Horse Race 4 Tate? Thank you for wanting to learn more!

Neutropenia means the type of white blood cell that fights bacteria is missing. Since bacteria regulates our bodies, neutropenics can get infections from "good bacteria" too, which we're all crawling with ;). It is extremely rare for this condition to occur naturally as it does for our son, Tate, and only a few thousand other people worldwide.

There is no cure, and there is only one treatment, a daily shot that was created for people undergoing chemotherapy (chemo causes neutropenia temporarily). Tate's medicine was never intended for long-term use. Without treatment, illnesses can be life-threatening.

Our son responds well to his daily shot of Neupogen, but we want a cure and additional treatment options. Since diagnosis when Tate was 17 months old, we've been dedicated to raising money for research through the Ella Jewell Foundation. We call our fundraiser the Long Race 4 Tate because it is a long race - the finish line is not in sight yet. And his name is Tate Long, so we got lucky there. Ella Jewell's parents are too - they started the nonprofit for the same reason. The University of Washington College of Medicine performs the only research and is the beneficiary of our efforts.

We've raised over $200,000 in a little over five years. Every dollar counts in our efforts. "Orphan diseases" receive very little attention from pharmaceutical companies, but there is a drug that is being tested as well as an at-home blood testing device (it's a very different test than diabetics use, so this is much more difficult than it sounds). Our funding goes directly towards those efforts and helps the university maintain multi-million funding from the National Institute of Health.
