Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the barn
The horses were munching,
all snuggled and warm.
The antics they get up to
and the fun they will have,
Determines their place
on Santa’s long list, sweet or bad.
How will they fare on the list for this year?
Naughty or nice, how should we measure
This herd of horses
that really is quite a treasure?
Let’s begin with high energy
and random, silly spooks.
Walking to and from paddock
With many a silly goose.
Prancing like reindeer are Phoenix, Ricky,
Jewel, Ben, and Kyro.
They must jump, spin and buck,
There are places to go!
General thinks gates are the worst thing on earth,
Andrew will push you like the Titanic through ice.
While Pluto is flying fast and tears up the dirt,
They will heed no one, and hear no advice.
Cassie is grumps and Hayworth a spaz.
Desi breaks loose from his stall to escape.
Belle must panic with no reason to,
And Brach would like to stick his nose in your face.
Django will push and Dragon will paw,
Indigo pushes her face to the ground.
Pistol will beg even though she has food,
And Irish on his stall door must pound.
Plodding along are Buddy and Howard,
Cheyenne, Cloud, and Whiskey.
Then there’s Lucy, Luna and Carli
Who always feel frisky.
Tucker’s teeth he will grind,
Dancer blows his nose in your hair.
And if you’re not moving fast enough,
That old Sneakers will stare.
Jax has no clue, and Romeo finds the mud.
Charlie spreads hay all over his stall.
Count is bored to the bone,
And will gnaw on the wall.
Spencer and Hero like to chew on each other.
Tenny tells Felipe to shove off,
Because every day he places
his nosy noggin by her feeding trough.
Trooper rears constantly with his best bud,
Cash won’t let the other guys roll.
Seamus will leave anyone in the dust,
And Dolly up the lane alone she must stroll.
Our horses are horses and do some things
That we wish they would not.
But being adorable
is a great talent they’ve got.
They are here when we need them
And show love everyday.
And judging by the enormous stockpile of carrots in the barn fridge,
They’re doing their jobs okay.
So naughty or nice,
On Santa’s big list
We love our crazy ponies
And just that is the gist.
To begin to return the love that they give,
Kissing their noses soundly is a great start.
And snuggle them and love them
From the bottom of our hearts.
Merry Christmas from Pleasant View Farm!
