✨ The Poodle: More Than Just a Pretty Haircut! ✨
When most people think of Poodles, they picture a fancy show dog with pom-poms—but their history is much more impressive than many realize!
🐩 Poodles were originally bred as water retrievers. Despite being the national dog of France today, the breed actually originated in Germany. Their name comes from the German word “puddeln,” meaning “to splash in water.”
These incredibly athletic, intelligent dogs were used to retrieve ducks and other waterfowl for hunters. Their dense, curly coat helped protect them from cold water, but a completely long coat became heavy and created drag while swimming.
