Hey everyone I don't post here as often as I would like but I've been going through some stuff the last couple of months and I think I'm ready to share. Around 3 months ago Atlas started dropping weight and developed some abscesses so I ended up taking him into the Vet. They had figured it was a bacterial infection and we got him on antibiotics and watched to make sure none of the abscesses were internal or ruptured internally. We also sent in some labs to verify. Well the labs came back and nothing grew from the culture, which happens sometimes and once he was passed the initial death scares he seemed to be doing okay. Well then the infection got into his eye so I ended up taking him to the vet again and we did topical eye drops and another round of antibiotics cause he was obviously still fighting what ever he had. Hoping this would clear up his eye and we could see what was all wrong with it. A couple weeks ago I noticed he had another abscess flaring up and I wanted to go into the Vet anyway to get his eye looked at again. So into the Vet a third time last week. We drained the abscess and sent another culture sent in to hopefully get answers. They also determined that his eye was going to need to be removed because it had ruptured and there was no saving it and it would just cause discomfort. Well yesterday I got a call back from the vet and found out he does not have a bacterial infection so the two rounds of antibiotics we gave didn't target what he has because he has a fungal infection which is extremely rare in horses. So another round of medication for the next month and he has to be completely clear of it before we can do surgery on his eye. So after all the vet bills, early mornings and months of stress we still are not done. He seems to be doing good so that keeps me going.
