KING - A557064
4 yo male
34 pounds

This 4-year-old terrier mix came in emaciated and scared, surrendered by an owner who clearly hadn’t given him the care he deserved. Despite his rough start, King is slowly learning that kindness exists.

King is still a bit shy, especially around excitable dogs, so he’d do best in a calm, solo dog home where he can decompress and feel safe. He absolutely lights up when treats are involved.

If you’re someone with a gentle touch and an open heart, King could really learn what love and kindness can do. He needs someone who will help him learn that love doesn’t hurt—and that home can be a place of peace, comfort, and plenty of snacks.

Another perspective:
King A557064 has gained much needed confidence and weight since I first met him. He’s also been in doggy playgroups!

He came in emaciated and so scared and was living on a balcony is a small cage!!!! We need to show him that that's NOT the kind of life he (or any dog) deserves!

Note: This photo shows him in rough shape (when he came in) and he's made great progress!

🙋‍♀️ FAQs:
🔸Why are there so many urgent dogs?
PG County has a breed ban prohibiting its residents from owning terriers (pit bulls). They have few options and must be rescued or adopted by other communities.
🔸Can I adopt outside PG County?
Yes, yes, yes! We depend on it!
🔸How many dogs can I meet?
2 per visit
🔸What’s the adoption fee?
There’s a sliding scale based on weight of the dog (large dogs being less expensive) See shelter website.
🔸 How can I foster an urgent dog?
You can apply through a rescue partner. Post your interest under the dog you’d like to foster or PM us anytime! The list of rescue partners able to pull dogs varies based on their capacity and finances.

This Charlie is so sweet, he belongs in a chocolate factory! He is seeking a new home through no fault of his own. Here’s how his owner described him:

Charlie is going to be 4 years old in July. He's good with other dogs and children. He has never had any issues at doggie daycare. He is house trained. He is a pitbull and I believe he's mixed with lab because his hair is thick. His coat is a reddish brown with white spots and he's approximately 70 lbs. He loves to be outdoors and is very sweet! He has cryptorchidism so we have not been able to successfully neuter him.

Interested in adopting Charlie? Please fill out an application online and we will connect you with his owner if it’s a good fit. Please note that there will be an adoption donation of $50 requested. Apply online here: https://forms.gle/T5EGLmtXs2wZTZFs5

🐾 **Calling All Dog Lovers!** 🐾

We’re reaching out to our wonderful community for help! We're currently running low on slip lead leashes, which are crucial for exercising our dogs and ensuring they stay happy and healthy.

These leashes are not just equipment to us; they are essential tools that help us build trust and connection with our furry friends during their walks and our dog playgroups. Your support can make a significant difference!

If you can, please consider donating slip lead leashes from our Amazon wish list. Your generosity will help us provide the love and exercise our dogs need!

Please note: We are extremely low on lime green leashes used for our dogs in the placement room.

Thank you for your continued support! Together, we can make a positive impact on these dogs’ lives! 💖🐶

What kind of dog has a name like Chowdy? Clam chowder is an elegant, creamy, warm soothing soup. Chowdy is definity warm, soothing, cuddly, cozy and an absolute delight, but this middle-aged gal is also full of s***k and personality!

Chowdy may be a bit slow moving, but her spirit is full of life. If you want a dog whose walking needs are short, slow, and sweet, Chowdy may be your gal! Chowdy knows sit and paw. Chowdy loves treats! Chowdy even caught a few treats that were tossed her way, and, when she missed, this resilient gal kept on trying. Chowdy also jumped up (very gently as she is a slow-moving, gentle, lady), to catch treats and to say hello. This shows that she is still full of life and has a fun spirit.

During her walk, Chowdy followed her human around, staring (possibly searching for her next treat). Chowdy also enjoys getting some pets. After eating treats, Chowdy spent some time licking my hand, as if to try and savor every last bit of the treat. This gal really loves life! She also has a great personality. Once or twice, when sitting patiently waiting for treats as the human stalled (trying to snap some pictures) she did an almost tippy tap dance and made a funny, super cute bark noise. (You can hear her bark at the end of her video!) Chowdy’s face is very expressive too! Her eyes are a gorgeous, piercing amber color.

Chowdy has a mass on her back (which you can see in her video). I don’t have any information about it, but she seemed to walk fine (albeit slowly), and she even jumped up a couple of times.

This amazing gal deserves a home filled with treats and love where she can age gracefully and entertain you with her quirky, but also calm, personality. If you would like a faithful low-energy companion that is inquisitive and attentive, Chowdy is your gal. Hurry up and meet her today!
