Homeward Bound Animal Rescue Homeward Bound was founded in 2006. We are a 501c3 rescue. Our sole focus is to save pregnant dogs or new mommies from high kill shelters.

Homeward Bound is a small organization that was formed in November 2006 out of a love for dogs. The group has evolved over the years and has become more focused on the type of rescue work we feel compelled to do. We primarily pull pregnant dogs or dogs who have just delivered their puppies. I was shocked to find out that pregnant dogs are almost always euthanized because they are deemed unadoptabl

e by shelters and there are few rescue organizations willing to take them. And I was appalled when I realized they would throw a pregnant or new mother with all her babies into a gas chamber and kill them. The moment I learned that information I redirected Homeward Bound's path in the rescue world. Since then my sole focus has been pregnant or new mommies. I feel this is where I can best serve in the rescue community. Our mommy dogs are with us for at least three months. In that time, we get to know them very well, and we are confident about the type of home they require to thrive. We also have mommy fully housetrained, crate trained and leash broken. Mommy will be fully vetted, HW neg, and spayed before she goes to her forever home. Our puppies will never know a momment of fear or need when they are born in our foster homes. They are kept in heated whelping nests until they are four weeks old. The pups are wormed every week once they turn two weeks old and will leave our foster care at 8 weeks of age with a health certificate from our vet, minimum of first set of shots possibly more, multiple wormings, and microchipped. Our adoption fees are higher because of the type of rescue work we perform. On average we have to pay for 10 C-section surgeries a year. Those surgeries range anywhere from $700-3600. We also are committed to our mommy dogs, so if they are HW positive or have other health issues, we treat them and get them healthy. We have our mommy dogs for a minimum of three months in foster care and sometimes we've had them as long as a year until we can find just the right home for them. We know them very well and we know what kind of home they need. Our puppies are raised in loving foster homes and get to stay with their mom until it is time to be adopted. WILLOW has completed her motherly duties and all but 1 of her pups have gone off to their furever homes. She is now waiting patiently for her family to find her. She is a sweet, house trained, loving gal that gets along with other dogs, does seem to like guys more than gals, plays well with others is doing better in leash (still pulls some, loves bones and belly rubs, however does have slight separation anxiety. She likes to be able to see her people.
She is up to date on her vaccines and preventatives and is HW negative. She is being fostered in Steelton, PA.

Juno was pregnant and HW positive when she was left in Alabama at the vet's office in the middle of the night. Her family definitely loved her and hoped she would be taken care of. She was a great momma to her pups, was spayed, and treated for heartworm. Now she's looking for an amazing family to call her own.

After 3 weeks in her foster home, we know a lot more about Juno. She is super sweet and oh so soft! She loves belly rubs, watching nature, cuddling up next to you, and going for walks. She jumps right into the water, has a nose for groundhogs, squirrels, and possums, but has yet to touch a toy or a bone. (That means she also hasn’t touched a sock or shoe!) She is fully house trained (no accidents in 3 weeks) and has free rein in the house even when her foster parents go to work. Juno is confident and happy–she likes men, women, and children equally. She doesn’t have the timidity that many of our mommas show at first. At the same time, she is calm and even tempered. Juno would love a fenced in yard and a sibling dog, but neither is required. She will not be trustworthy off leash because of her nose.

What we don’t know about Juno is her breed. In her paperwork, different vets have mentioned German shorthair pointer, lab, cattle dog, and general pointer. Whatever she is, she is a 100% good girl. Juno is 45 pounds, up to date on vaccines and preventatives, and HW negative. She is being fostered in Shippensburg, PA.

We are now accepting applicationS on Mama Willow and her 6 "W" litter of pups. They will be available for meets starting 8/28/25. Mama (1-1/2 yo) and pups (10w) are Great Pyrenees/Collie mixes and all are and will be large dogs and because of the nature of the Pyr will not be adopted to apartment or townhouse renters or owners.

Looking for a smaller pup to bring into your home...check out Dexter.
Dexter came up from Alabama with no Mother and 7 brothers and 2 sisters. He is a Pocket Pit Bull/Boston Terrier mix pup. Dexter will be around 30lbs full grown. He is now crate trained, house trained with an ocassional sneakaway accident, He just loves people and is well behaved when out amongst a lof of people. The litter is sweet and loving and the right size for a lap dog. Will make great companions. Will most likely not be able to walk for long distances but still good for short walks. They are up to date on vaccines and preventatives, already having been given 2 DAPP's, Revolution applied topically and Sentinel Spectrum chewable. Dexter is being fostered in Camp Hill, PA.

LOOKING FOR A YOUNG TRAINED GAL, JUNO just be what you are looking for.
JUNO is a 1.5 year old spayed Cattle Dog/Pointer mixed gal from Alabama. Juno is a joyful and relaxed dog who wants a family who loves to give belly rubs. She loves all people, walks nicely on a leash, appears to be potty trained, and even tolerates baths. She would like to play with the resident dog, but respects her space. So far she has not shown an interest in toys, however that could change with time. She has not been cat tested as there is not one at her Foster's home. SLOOKhe is around 45lbs and is up to date on vaccines and preventatives and is HW negative. She is being fostered in Shippensburg, PA.

Fabor and Faith are the last 2 of the 6 F litter Border Collie mix pups. The other 4 have been adopted or have meets set for this week. These girls are both Black and white and expected to be around 40 lbs full grown. They are super loving, friendly, playful, will most likely love to go for walks to explore, and play fetch to help alleviate some of their energy as they get older. They are current on vaccinations and preventatives, having had 2 DAPP's , Revolution topically and Sentinel PO chewable and has a clean bill of health from our Vet. They are being fostered in York Springs, PA.

Maeva, Macky & Mario came to us from Alabama with no mother. They are Hound/Labrador Retriever mixes that we expect to be around 50lbs full grown. They are friendly, quiet, playful and right size to make a good walking/running companion. Fleur came to us from Alabama with no mother and 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She is a Border Collie mix gal and is one of the 4 Black and white pups in the litter. We expect this litter of pups to be around 40 lbs full grown.
