Homeward Bound Animal Rescue Homeward Bound was founded in 2006. We are a 501c3 rescue. Our sole focus is to save pregnant dogs or new mommies from high kill shelters.

Homeward Bound is a small organization that was formed in November 2006 out of a love for dogs. The group has evolved over the years and has become more focused on the type of rescue work we feel compelled to do. We primarily pull pregnant dogs or dogs who have just delivered their puppies. I was shocked to find out that pregnant dogs are almost always euthanized because they are deemed unadoptabl

e by shelters and there are few rescue organizations willing to take them. And I was appalled when I realized they would throw a pregnant or new mother with all her babies into a gas chamber and kill them. The moment I learned that information I redirected Homeward Bound's path in the rescue world. Since then my sole focus has been pregnant or new mommies. I feel this is where I can best serve in the rescue community. Our mommy dogs are with us for at least three months. In that time, we get to know them very well, and we are confident about the type of home they require to thrive. We also have mommy fully housetrained, crate trained and leash broken. Mommy will be fully vetted, HW neg, and spayed before she goes to her forever home. Our puppies will never know a momment of fear or need when they are born in our foster homes. They are kept in heated whelping nests until they are four weeks old. The pups are wormed every week once they turn two weeks old and will leave our foster care at 8 weeks of age with a health certificate from our vet, minimum of first set of shots possibly more, multiple wormings, and microchipped. Our adoption fees are higher because of the type of rescue work we perform. On average we have to pay for 10 C-section surgeries a year. Those surgeries range anywhere from $700-3600. We also are committed to our mommy dogs, so if they are HW positive or have other health issues, we treat them and get them healthy. We have our mommy dogs for a minimum of three months in foster care and sometimes we've had them as long as a year until we can find just the right home for them. We know them very well and we know what kind of home they need. Our puppies are raised in loving foster homes and get to stay with their mom until it is time to be adopted. Meet Ravenn - a 5-1/2 year old Lab/Belgian Malinois/Pit/German Shepherd mix from her DNA test. Raven is a dog that needs a very Active family, that can give her the time that she needs to be happy. Unfortunately things have changed in the household that do not allow for the walks and play and attention that she is accustomed to and needs. She is an awesome gal and is house trained, she does get very excited when meeting new people but does not jump on them and is friendly. She was crate trained as a pup but has not been in one since fully housetrained. Walks, runs well on harness leash, know her commands (sit, paw, whisper, speak, spin, down, stay, up), loves car rides and travels well even long distances. She does well with cats, other dogs, loves children but is anxious with little ones, so children should be 10 or older. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccines and preventatives and is on a is on food for dryskin. Raven is a 78 lb love bug, a cuddler, exxtremely smart, easy to train, but high energy and fast. loves to play ball.

Meet Bristol a Boxer/Hound mix who will get to be around 60lbs full grown. She is a very playful gal, who loves to run around im the yard. She is friendly and gets along well with other dogs. Sleeps thru the night in her crate and as long as you are paying attention to her, she will give you signs she needs to go potty, She up to date on her vaccines and preventatives and is being fostered in Enola PA.

Meet Gimma a Cattle Dog mix and will get to be around 40lbs full grown. Gimma is good with other dogs, loves to play, does well with kids and their noise and activity., She is doing great with crate training and potty training. A very sweet, loving , snuggle bug that will fall asleep in your lap. She shoulg be a good companion for walking. She is up to date on vaccines and preventatives, is being fostered in Newport, PA.

Meet the 2 Great Pyrenees mix pups that came to us from Alabama without a Mother. Pyr Glory and Pyr rebel are brother and sister. Their differences are s*x and color. They are 3-1/2 months old and will be around 70lbs full grown. They are sweet, loving, shy at times, a working dog breed that love people so much that even for their size, at times they think they are lap pets.
