Homeward Bound Animal Rescue Homeward Bound was founded in 2006. We are a 501c3 rescue. Our sole focus is to save pregnant dogs or new mommies from high kill shelters.

Homeward Bound is a small organization that was formed in November 2006 out of a love for dogs. The group has evolved over the years and has become more focused on the type of rescue work we feel compelled to do. We primarily pull pregnant dogs or dogs who have just delivered their puppies. I was shocked to find out that pregnant dogs are almost always euthanized because they are deemed unadoptabl

e by shelters and there are few rescue organizations willing to take them. And I was appalled when I realized they would throw a pregnant or new mother with all her babies into a gas chamber and kill them. The moment I learned that information I redirected Homeward Bound's path in the rescue world. Since then my sole focus has been pregnant or new mommies. I feel this is where I can best serve in the rescue community. Our mommy dogs are with us for at least three months. In that time, we get to know them very well, and we are confident about the type of home they require to thrive. We also have mommy fully housetrained, crate trained and leash broken. Mommy will be fully vetted, HW neg, and spayed before she goes to her forever home. Our puppies will never know a momment of fear or need when they are born in our foster homes. They are kept in heated whelping nests until they are four weeks old. The pups are wormed every week once they turn two weeks old and will leave our foster care at 8 weeks of age with a health certificate from our vet, minimum of first set of shots possibly more, multiple wormings, and microchipped. Our adoption fees are higher because of the type of rescue work we perform. On average we have to pay for 10 C-section surgeries a year. Those surgeries range anywhere from $700-3600. We also are committed to our mommy dogs, so if they are HW positive or have other health issues, we treat them and get them healthy. We have our mommy dogs for a minimum of three months in foster care and sometimes we've had them as long as a year until we can find just the right home for them. We know them very well and we know what kind of home they need. Our puppies are raised in loving foster homes and get to stay with their mom until it is time to be adopted. Meet MULLIGAN - a 1 year old German Shorthaired Pointer, who would like to find a loving family of his own. He was found in a shelter where he was not thriving, so he was pulled and has been being worked with as prior to the shelter he was being starved. Because of the starvation situation, Mulligan needs to fed separately until he gets over his food insecurity. He is a BIG pup that likes to play, loves to be right next to his people of all ages, very sweet, good with other dogs and ignores cats. He is neutered, fully potty trained, crate trained, rides well in the car and knows his basic commands. He is such a love bug that he may even try to get on your lap. SABLE is a 2 year old German Shepherd mixed gal from Alabama, who has completed her motherly duties to her 9 pups. She is a sweet, gentle, obedient, loving gal that enjoys people and other dogs. She loves playing ball, does great walking on a leash, lets her foster know when she needs to go out and is smart. She is not a fan of the crate, but her Foster is working with her on that one. She is around 55lbs and is up to date on vaccines and preventatives and is HW negative. Sable is being fostered in Shippensburg, PA.

Brock and Brooks came up from Alabama with no Mother and 3 siblings. They are Boxer/Hound mix and will get to be around 60lbs full grown. They are very playful, sweet and all around good pups. They do well with cats and also children of all ages. They are doing very well with potty training and sleeping in their crates. They are up to date on vaccines and preventatives, already having been given 3 DAPP's, Rabies vaccine, Revolution applied topically and Sentinel Spectrum chewable. AMERICA is still looking for her furever family. She is an awesome almost 3month old pup. She is good with people of all ages, including kids, loves other dogs and is respectful of her Fosters dogs when they do not want to play. She is fine with the house cats as well. Sleeps overnight in her crate, is doing great with potty training and rarely has an accident. She loves to follow the kids and dogs around and play, but will also curl up on the couch with a toy of hers as well. She is Shepherd/Husky/Hound mix and will be around 45lbs full grown. She will make a great addition to your family and a faithful companion for life. America is up to date on her vaccines and preventatives and is being fostered in Lititz, PA.
