As breeding season comes to an end, it's time to plan for 2027.
Maverick traces back to Blue Valentine 24 times! Although not obvious because many of those are many generations beyond what's immediately on his papers. Here's some interesting facts on BV.
Long before “versatility” became a horse marketing word, Blue Valentine horses were already proving it daily.
Few horses left a mark on ranch and rope horse programs like Blue Valentine. Foaled in 1956, out of Red Man (son of Joe Hancock) and Beauty’s Dream (daughter of Valentine). He became one of the most influential horses behind the modern ranch, rope, and rodeo horse world, prized today for grit, stamina, cow sense, and minds that could handle real work.
His offspring became known for being durable, level headed, and able to go all day without falling apart. They weren’t built for trends, they were built for ranches, branding pens, rough country, and hard miles.
His genetic stamp was incredibly strong, establishing a highly coveted bloodline. He sired 210 foals prior to his death and his notable offspring and descendants include: Gooseberry, Leo Hancock Hayes, and Rowdy Blue Man. Even now, decades later, people still actively seek Blue Valentine blood for:
- gentleness
- strong bone and feet
- natural cow and rope horse ability
- gritty, willing minds
- stamina and toughness
- old style ranch horse durability
Sadly Blue Valentine passed away at 24 and inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2024, his legend continues.
