Long Read! Shared from a friend..

🐾 WHAT A BREEDER NEVER SAYS OUT LOUD… 🐾

People often think breeders live among perfect dogs, adorable puppies, and endless joy. What they don’t see is everything that goes into bringing those little miracles into the world.

The photos are beautiful.

The reality is exhausting, emotional, expensive, and sometimes heartbreaking.

✨ Every litter is a leap of faith.
You can plan every detail, study pedigrees, complete health testing, and prepare for months—but no whelping ever goes exactly as expected.

Even after years of experience, every birth still feels like the first.

💔 Loss is the hardest part.
A complication during delivery.
A puppy that fades unexpectedly.
A mother who needs emergency care.

These moments never get easier. Every loss leaves a mark.

💰 Breeding isn’t a shortcut to profit.
People often see:

“Number of puppies × price = profit.”

What they don’t see is:

• Health & genetic testing
• In home Stud costs (care, shows, health testing)
• Veterinary care for Dam
• traveling expenses and gas
•personal time invested
• Emergency medical costs
• Quality nutrition & supplements
• Training & socialization
• Titles & showing
• Registration fees
• Supplies & equipment
• Advertising, websites & photography, BBB accreditations
• Endless cleaning, laundry, and mountains of p**p 🫣 (cleaning supplies needed and water and electrical costs)

What’s left at the end?

Usually not much more than the satisfaction of doing it right.

😴 Sleep becomes scarce.
Bottle feeding every 2–3 hours.
Monitoring temperatures.
Checking weights.
Watching for signs of illness.

There are no weekends, holidays, or days off.

🐶 Who really raises the puppies?
The mother does an incredible job.

But so does the breeder.

Every feeding, every socialization experience, every health check, every sleepless night matters.

🤔 “Why is that puppy so expensive?”

If breeders got a dollar for every time they heard that question, maybe our dogs really would be eating caviar.

❤️ Choosing homes is never easy.
A puppy isn’t a package.

It’s a life we’ve invested our hearts into.

We worry about where they go, who they go to, and whether they’ll be loved and cared for for the next 10–15 years.

Sometimes we say no.
Sometimes we wait.
Sometimes we keep a puppy longer than planned because the right home hasn’t come along.

😔 The emotional exhaustion is real.
The pressure.
The responsibility.
The constant worrying.

And the loneliness that comes when an emergency happens in the middle of the night and you’re the only one awake fighting for a life.

💭 Sometimes we think about quitting.
After a loss.
After a setback.
After another sleepless week.

Then a puppy opens its eyes for the first time…
A family sends a photo years later…
A puppy you’ve poured your heart into changes someone’s life more often then one would know and that feeling you get known the impact you made.

And somehow, you find the strength to do it all over again.

🐾 Breeding isn’t just a hobby.
🐾 It isn’t just a business.
🐾 It’s a commitment.
🐾 It’s a responsibility.

Most of all, it’s a labor of love.

Behind every experienced breeder is a story filled with sleepless nights, tears, sacrifices, losses, lessons learned, and an unconditional love for these incredible animals.

❤️ To all the ethical breeders out there—keep going. The work is hard, but the lives we help create and the families we bring together make it all worthwhile. ❤️
