While everyone else is thinking about spring, we’re already thinking about fall leaves!

Here at Frog Food Bioactives, we’re kicking things up a notch this year and starting our leaf washing process a whole season early.

Thanks to all of you and our amazing wholesale partners, we are running low on leaf litter, which is a great problem to have.

So what do we do to make sure our leaf litter is safe for your tanks?

Collected in the Texas countryside
Shipped to us here in Pennsylvania and frozen
Carefully washed
Dried on large racks with industrial fans
Then bagged and labeled by us before heading out to our customers!

Our goal is always to make sure you’re getting clean, safe, high-quality leaf litter for your bioactive setups.

Last year we took Daniel to National Frog Fest so he could finally meet some of the people in the frog hobby he usually only gets to see and learn from online.

We can’t wait to take him back again this year.

Here’s Daniel with Iván Lozano.
Iván does incredible dart frog conservation work in Colombia, helping protect native Colombian dart frogs from being illegally harvested.
He also works to legally breed and export Colombian dart frogs, allowing the dart frog community to responsibly enjoy these amazing species while supporting conservation efforts.

After a lot of consideration, we’ve decided that the Pittsburgh Reptile Show on January 4th will be our last reptile show.

Since opening the pet store with our business partner, Frog Food Bioactives has transitioned into our in-store brand. Between running the store and everything that comes with it, we no longer have the time to dedicate to traveling shows, and financially, it no longer makes sense for us to continue doing them.

This is a business move, not an emotional one.

We won’t be running any large “last show” sales, but if you’d like to come out and give us one last hurrah, we would truly appreciate seeing you.

To our Pittsburgh customers who rely on our fruit fly cultures each month, don’t worry. You’re covered. We already have plans in place for continued availability, and someone will be bringing our fruit fly cultures down moving forward.

If you are a pet store or vendor that we have been wholesaling to or one that wants to start: we will absolutely continue to wholesale to you. Moving forward, pickup will be at our storefront, or we can ship to you at an additional cost.

To all of our supporters: we love you. This past year has been a lot, and we’ve been struggling to keep up with shipping orders. That isn’t fair to you, and we believe in being honest and doing right by our customers.

Thank you for making our son’s dream come true. Your support has meant more to our family than we can ever fully express.

This is not a goodbye—just a shift in how we move forward. 💚

Snowed in today, truck still in the shop, and the kids are home from school, not exactly the productive morning we planned!

But we woke up to a handful of new orders rolling in on the Frog Food Bioactives site, and I’ve got to give a big shout-out to Wally Kern and his YouTube community for the boost. Seriously, thank you all for supporting a small, frog-obsessed business.

Anyone who ordered last night, your packages will go out tomorrow!
We also realized our website had some problems so we are working on them now. 😉

Also if anyone is feeling festive and wants to send this small business owning family a little early Christmas cheer, we are currently a size MacBook and F-150 torque converter. 😅🤣
