On Wednesday, we had our first group of kids from Kids of the Community of McMinnville, TN out to the farm.

This was a group of girls, aged 9. We spent some time with the animals, added pollinator waterers to the garden, talked about livestock guardian dogs and worked on a craft painting project.

Everyone wanted a photo on Scarlet.
Massey Ferguson , we are building more red team future farmers. ♥️

You can also bet that these young ladies went home with a clear message that they can toss gender out the window and that they can drive a tractor, turn a wrench and build a farm, all by themselves. 👩🏼‍🌾💪🏼

Poppy came in to meet Akiva this afternoon. How cute is she? The chickens are here to eat flies and to scratch up manure and fertilize the pasture all at the same time. They will be very busy workers this summer! She is an Easter Egger. 🐣

It took me 8 months, but I finally made the shirt for Robi Raw who renamed our tractor, Ruby, when Ruby the Heifer came to live at the Tennessee Cow Rescue. 🐄

Now, our Massey Ferguson tractor is named Scarlet. ❤️
Since Robi is a musician, it likely has something to do with Scarlet Begonia and The Grateful Dead. 😍

Thank you Robi Raw!
Check out his music, he’s very talented! 🎶🎵🎼🎶🎵

TCR, can you take in a brown cow?????
Absolutely not! 😂

Of course, I am kidding; just becuase we don’t have any now doesn’t mean we won’t one day have a brown cow.

These guys and gals are munching on some donated hay today which is also when they get sprayed for flies. They are a captive audience.

(Look at cute lil’ Murphy in the middle!)

Our pasture is not in the best shape and we’ll have to supplement with grain and hay all summer.

We are 100% out of money, if you’d like to donate a bale of hay today we’d be very grateful. 🐄

The wool gods were shining their warm and fuzzy love on me today. Little let me get all of his winter hair off and now he’s cool and slightly cleaner.

Wonder if I can give him a bath?🐑🛁💭🤔

Look at wee little Murphy living out with the Bigs.

The day I picked Murphy up he was almost dead; we went directly to the vet. At two weeks old, he had two eye infections, an imbelical infection, a fever, scours, he was dehydrated and he had the worst rain rot our vets have ever seen. That was the very end of July, now he’s a healthy and happy boy!

As a side note, he talks more than any cow here. He calls me for every reason under the sun, but usually it’s becuase he’s hungry. He may grow up to be a very big boy.

He’s hanging out with Ruby which is super awesome because the other cows aren’t really nice to Ruby. I hope she and Murphy will be friends. Ruby knows him becuase she spent the winter living up here on the house side and not in the pasture.
