We offer training for puppies and dogs of all ages and breeds, but the most challenging and rewarding training is for the humans!
Background…
My name is Derek McCord, and I am the owner/operator/trainer for Blue Dog K9 Training and Consulting. The company is named after my first dual-purpose Police K9 partner, “Blue” nicknamed “Blue Dog”, because he was the one that started it all and was one heck of a K9. Between police dogs, family dogs and my personal dogs I have been working with dogs for about 13 years. I have been very blessed to learn from and work with some of the region's top Police K-9 trainers and handlers as well as out-of-state trainers and handlers. The knowledge and experiences passed on to me are combined with some of my own experiences as an officer, K9 handler and police trainer to make this a unique and fun training experience.
Training Concepts…
We use a train-the-trainer, building block style of training that utilizes positive reinforcement. This means one of my goals is to train the human counterpart (including kids) to be their dog’s trainer. I want the human to be confident and feel comfortable training their dog when I’m not with them and after we are done with our training program. One of the ways this is accomplished is by starting with developing a strong base of basic fundamental training and performance blocks and then slowly building up to more difficult tasks block by block, level by level. Even the most advanced dog teams return to the fundamentals to clean and hone their skills…family dog teams should be no different – so we will review fundamentals every session to refresh basic skills before moving on.

- Since we come to you, rates depend on distance travelled from our location in McKinney. We book in one-hour minimum slots, and rates start at $100 per hour. Please contact us by messenger or the phone number listed for more information.
