White House issues new executive order to strengthen customs enforcement, protecting U.S. consumers and businesses

WASHINGTON—Today, President Donald Trump signed Executive Order “Strengthening Customs Enforcement,” empowering U.S. Customs and Border Protection with a comprehensive set of tools to safeguard American consumers, businesses, and revenue while increasing transparency and compliance across international supply chains.

“CBP stands ready to enforce this Executive Order,” said CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott. “Importing into the U.S. has for too long been treated as a right and not a privilege. CBP will execute the priorities in this Executive Order and by doing so we will fortify our trading border just as we have done with our physical border.”

Record heat is about to flip to freezing temperatures 🚨

After days of record-breaking heat across parts of the U.S., a sudden surge of Arctic air is set to send temperatures plunging below freezing in just days.

Cities that recently saw temperatures in the 90s °F (32+ °C), including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and areas near New York, are now bracing for a sharp cooldown. In some regions, temperatures could drop into the 20s °F (-6 °C) with even a chance of snow.

Nearly 100 million people are expected to feel this dramatic shift.

The source of this cold isn’t local. It’s coming from far to the north.

While much of the planet has been unusually warm, parts of Alaska and Canada have been experiencing prolonged cold. Alaska just went through its coldest December-to-March period in about 50 years, as persistent high-pressure systems pulled frigid air down from the Arctic.

Now, that cold air mass is spilling southward.

A dip in the jet stream, linked to a shift in the North Atlantic Oscillation, is allowing Arctic air to plunge deep into the U.S., creating what scientists call “weather whiplash.”

And it can have real consequences.

Early spring warmth triggered blossoms in some regions. Now, with freezing temperatures returning, crops and flowers are at risk of damage or loss.

Even with this cold snap, the broader pattern hasn’t changed. Around 76% of the planet has experienced above-average temperatures since March, highlighting how uneven global warming can be.
