You all have probably noticed some new faces at The Healthy Pet recently..

So help us in saying.. Welcome Dr. Lauren DVM!🐾🩺

Dr. Lauren was born and raised in Monroe County in Forsyth Ga. She started riding horses when she was a young girl and that only grew the fire in her heart to follow her dreams to work with animals. Early on she made friends with some local veterinarians during her free time and fell in love with the science behind Veterinary Medicine.💊 Ultimately Dr. Lauren loves connecting with people over a shared care for their pet’s wellbeing.

Dr Lauren is also a graduate from University of Georgia 🐾❤️🐶 and graduated earlier this year with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is the Golden Retrievers of course (and the kittens, and all the spaniels, and everything else)🤣 but really her favorite aspect is gradually building great relationships with clients and their beloved animals. She loves getting a front row seat to the success stories of pets pulling through a difficult situation or getting better after an illness.❤️‍🩹

Dr. Lauren enjoys cooking (specifically all things sourdough), bible study with her church and family, and exploring her home state through parks and trails in nature. Dr. Lauren and her husband have yet to pull the trigger on their first pet together but she is so excited to embark on that journey as she comes from a home full of pets and livestock!

Her favorite animals are horses, specifically off the track crazy Thoroughbreds like the one she grew up riding as a young girl. 🐎

Dr. Lauren is fitting in right at home at THP and she is so excited to meet you and your pets!🩺❤️🐾

Is your pet showing symptoms of an ear infection?😣

🦠Are they scratching or pawing at their ears?
🦠Shaking their head or tilting it to one side?
🦠Sensitive when you rub around their ears?
🦠Do they have a lot of debris in their ears that is causing an odor?

These are common symptoms of an ear infection in dogs and cats, and they can vary in severity. Ear infections can either be fungal, bacterial, or BOTH! This is why it's important to bring your pet in to diagnose the type of infection so that we can get the right medication and get your pet some relief!

Call today to make an appointment if your pet is showing symptoms of an ear infection!

What is Canine Parvo Virus (CPV) and how does it affect our community?
🐾LET'S CHAT!🐾
Parvo virus is a highly contagious disease caused by CPV-2. The virus is normally spread by coming into contact with infected canines, f***s from infected canines, or contact with surfaces/humans that have been exposed to CPV. Such surfaces can include kennels, food and water bowls, collars and leashes, and the hands and clothing of people who handle infected dogs. This means that a walk through a busy park, going to the pet store, or even walking around in your neighborhood can be dangerous for young or unvaccinated dogs! It is important to know that wild animals such as coyotes and foxes can also carry CPV and can infect your property, leaving your dog vulnerable even if they don't leave your residence!😖

Although Parvo season is considered the spring and summer months due to the warm and humid climate, it is present and can be infectious year-round. The virus is resistant to heat, cold, humidity, and drying, and can survive in the environment for long periods (up to a year or more!).😱

All dogs are susceptible to getting Canine Parvo Virus; however, the dogs greater at risk are puppies between 6-20 weeks old, unvaccinated dogs, or improperly vaccinated dogs.🐕

The symptoms of CPV are:
🦠Lethargy
🦠Loss of appetite
🦠Vomiting
🦠Severe Diarrhea (often with blood)
🦠Abdominal Pain or Bloating
🦠Fever and Dehydration
‼️IF YOUR DOG IS SHOWING ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS, IMMEDIATELY CONTACT YOUR VETERINARIAN. EARLY TESTING/TREATMENT CAN SAVE LIVES.‼️

Ultimately this all leads to the question of... "How do I protect my dog from CPV?"
And the answer is that VACCINATION is the best prevention!💉
Make sure that your pets are fully up to date on Distemper/Parvo vaccines and boosters to dramatically reduce the risks of your pet catching CPV📉 and of course you can always consult with your Veterinarian for any additional tips and tricks.❤️🩺

Before the dental🦠… and ✨after the dental✨

Sully the Golden Retriever had some build up on his teeth and absolutely needed a dental cleaning! This happens to our pets (dogs and cats) as they age and can lead to things like bad breath, sensitivity, or even losing teeth! Luckily Sully has awesome owners and they got it scheduled right away!

He was the best (and snuggliest) patient throughout the whole procedure and we were able to get his teeth shiny and white again🦷🪥✨

Does your pet have stinky breath or bad teeth? WE CAN HELP!
🦷Call to schedule a dental consultation today!🦷
