If It’s Too Hot for Your Hand, It’s Too Hot for Their Paws! 🐾🔥
As we head into the warmer months, it’s important to remember that pavement, asphalt, and even sand can reach scorching temperatures that we don't always notice through our shoes.
While the air might feel like a comfortable 75°F or 80°F, the direct sun can heat asphalt to over 125°F! At that temperature, skin destruction can occur in just 60 seconds.
The 7-Second Rule 🖐️
Before heading out for a walk, place the back of your hand firmly on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you to keep your hand there comfortably, it is way too hot for your dog’s sensitive paw pads.
Tips for Summer Walks:
Early Bird or Night Owl: Stick to walks in the early morning or late evening when the ground has had a chance to cool down.
Stick to the Grass: If you’re out during the day, try to keep your pup on grassy or shaded areas as much as possible.
Watch for Signs: If your dog is limping, licking their paws, or hesitating to walk, they may already be experiencing discomfort.
Let’s keep those paws safe and healthy while we enjoy the sunshine! ☀️🐕
