🐾 Why Grooming Feels Different for Senior Pets 🐾
As our pets get older, their bodies go through natural changes that can make grooming a very different experience than it used to be—even if they still seem perfectly comfortable at home.
💛 What actually changes?
As pets age:
They lose muscle, especially the small muscles that help them stand and balance
Their joints become stiffer and less flexible
Their feet spine doesn’t move as easily
Their skin becomes thinner and more sensitive
Circulation slows, especially in their legs and feet
At the same time, their nervous system slows down too. This means:
Balance and coordination aren’t as strong
It takes longer for them to adjust their position
Standing for long periods becomes harder
🐶 So what does this mean during grooming?
When your senior pet is on the grooming table, they’re not just standing—they’re actively working to stay balanced the entire time.
This can make grooming:
More tiring
More stressful
Less tolerable than it used to be
✂️ Why we may make adjustments:
Extra time or breaks
Shorter or modified grooms
Focusing on comfort over perfection
Sometimes we may notice things during grooming like lumps, sensitive areas, or matting that weren’t obvious at home. These aren’t caused by grooming—they’re just easier to find during the process.
And occasionally, a groom may not look exactly like it did in the past. That’s because your pet’s comfort and safety always come first.
If at any point your pet seems too stressed or uncomfortable, we may need to pause or stop.
This is never about leaving something unfinished—it’s about protecting them.
💛 At the end of the day, we’re working with the body your pet has today, not the one they had years ago.
Thank you for trusting us to care for your senior pets with patience, compassion, and understanding.
