This adorable Muppet is Squirrel, a 1-year-old mixed breed who came to us as a stray and was not claimed. Squirrel got to spend New Year's Eve on a Dog Day Out with Kate, and here is what we learned about this adorable gentleman:

I was lucky enough to spend a sunny New Year's Eve day with Squirrel! He's a 1-year-old, 48lb lover who is 1000% ready to jump into your life for 2026 and beyond!

Some shelter pups are understandably unsure or nervous about a dog day out at first; we never know exactly what they've been through, but Squirrel fell into the routine like we'd been hanging out for ages! He hopped right into the backseat and rode happily and politely. On our walk/run, he was great on leash, eager for sniffs, but also pretty good at moving right along.

We encountered a number of adults, children, and other dogs, both on and off-leash, and Squirrel was glad to meet all of them and also respectfully move along if they were not interested. If he did meet another dog, he was great at getting going again when I was ready.

Squirrel LOVED the snow--eating it, rolling in it, and prancing in it! Although I'm sure he could quickly learn "sit" right now, he's a master of the "down-stay", which is quite impressive! It seems he skipped ahead to the tough stuff.

Squirrel loves his ball, everyone, other pups, treats, car rides, and adventures. He acts like he's already living the good life, so come adopt him for furever fun!

Come meet Squirrel today, or give us a call to learn more (208) 634-3647.

Our most handsome boy, Barkus, is still at MCPAWS! This young (1-year-old) man is a total love bug who gets along well with other pups and people. He is eager to learn new tricks and has great manners.

Barkus was picked up as a stray back in October. Since then, we have seen how loving, cuddly, and adventurous he is! We noticed that even though he was energetic and playful, he would limp occasionally, and his joints were swollen.

A complete medical workup showed that Barkus has chronic immune-mediated erosive polyarthritis, which had likely been going on for a while before he came into our care. This condition led to the rapid degeneration of his joints and will have lifelong effects, including pain and decreased mobility.

He does not let his diagnosis stop him! He still has lots of energy and wants to get out and explore McCall. He is currently on steroids to help reduce the inflammation and stop the immune system from attacking his joints. Long-term, he will likely need to be on anti-inflammatory medications to manage the pain caused by his joint degeneration.

Barkus thrives in a home environment where he feels safe and comfortable. He will be in pain occasionally due to his condition. He may have been dealt an unlucky hand, but he is making the most of what he has!

Do you know someone who would be a good fit for Barkus? Please like and share his post to help us find him a loving home.

Today is the last day of 2025! We appreciate all of you who helped us accomplish so much for the homeless pets in our region, and the people who love them this past year. We couldn't do this work without the support and dedication of our volunteers and donors. Thank you all!

Today is the last day to get in your tax-deductible, year-end gift to MCPAWS. Please consider making a donation to help us continue this important work: https://mcpaws.org/donate/make-a-donation/

Gus is a super sweet and snuggly 6-year-old pup who is in need of a forever or foster home. He recently went on a Dog Day Out adventure, and here is more about this adorable Ewok:

Gus is a 19-pound little one-eyed cutie who still hasn’t found a soft place to land. He’s looking for love as the king of his castle this holiday. Gus just wants a person(s) to love and be loved by. He prefers to be with you as much as possible and gets nervous when left alone, so he'll do best with someone who is home most of the time or can bring him with them. He will benefit from some crate-training, so he can learn to feel more relaxed and secure when his person can't be with him

Gus is your guy for lots of lap cuddles and snuggles, as well as jaunts around town so he can show off his epicly adorable underbite! Gus Gus is a dream on-leash and rides well in the car. This guy deserves his happily ever after this holiday!
