d. We have partnered with the University of Florida Veterinary Community Outreach Program as well as local Veterinarians and attempt to get the animals spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, and rabies vaccinated prior to adoption but we can only take a few at a time each week. If this procedure has not been completed prior to adoption, the adopter will have 30 days from the date of adoption to spay/neuter the pet and return the proof to the shelter. Statute 823.15

All adoptions are subject to application approval. Animals currently in the home must be kept current on vaccines through a licensed Veterinarian. Intake Policy: Suwannee Co. does not have a leash law. Dogs are allowed to roam; however, they are not allowed to be a nuisance. Please do not pick up a roaming animal as animals are considered property. If your neighbor's animal comes on your property, please do not feed it as it will stay. Please call animal services so they can address the issue with the owner. Please do not bring in an animal without calling the shelter first. We are a STRAY facility only! We will help you in any way we can by providing resources for you as well as recommended veterinarians to spay and neuter. Overcrowding in shelters leads to outbreaks, euthanasia and neglect in animal care. We ask you check with your neighbors.
