Thank you so much to The Doghouse Project for taking Stack in. I met Melissa and her husband this weekend and they are wonderful people with big hearts, exactly what is needed for the rescue world. We couldn’t be happier with where he is. And if you used to support and donate to Castaways, I highly recommend ya’ll consider following and supporting their efforts. Not only are they providing space for dogs in need and facilitating adoptions, but they also use their funding to provide shelter and basic necessities for displaced/stray dogs in their community.

Please check them out! And thank you to all who helped share and get the word out about Stack. We know his forever home is out there somewhere!

Ol’ Stack is still hanging out in foster for now. I wish from the bottom of my heart this dog was not in this position. AGAIN. Other than not getting along with certain males, he has no issues! He is AMAZING with cats and kids. He gets along well with other female dogs. He doesn’t bark, doesn’t chew, he’s house broken, and he’s quite polite! He’s been one of the most perplexing cases we’ve ever had.

Stack can be a little shy, it’s true, but I can’t tell you how many people have surrendered (or tried to surrender) dogs that are too hyper, too wound up, they need too much exercise, they bark too much-whatever!
And dogs like Stack hardly get a second look.

He is UTD and neutered. 50/50 GSD and pitty. And just a couch potato, nothing more!

Stack will be safe with a couple fosters for the next few weeks as we buy him some time to find a home. Thank you Anna and The Doghouse Project for stepping up.

He still needs a permanent home. Stack is fully vetted, great with cats, kids, and female dogs-he is a little hit or miss with larger males. He is approx 5 YO and a 50/50 split pf German Shepherd and bully.

Stack is a Velcro dog for sure, and he has a tendency to bond really hard with “his person.” He would make an outstanding companion dog. He is a cuddle bug, and kind of a shy guy! Very gentle and eager to please.

We can provide transportation if needed, just reach out through the website or send us a message!

Please help us save one more dog.

One of our favorite and long time residents, Stack, who was adopted last October, needs a new home. We are truly heartbroken it did not work out with these adopters. Stack and the husband in this family dynamic have not been able to bond, and they no longer wish to keep him. They want him removed by Friday.

Stack doesn’t have many options. He was pulled from a shelter kill list in 2023, if he goes back to a shelter, he faces the same fate. Castaways Rescue closed down operations last year in hopes of re-structing with a different nonprofit. That hope has since failed.

So we are calling on assistance one last time to find this handsome boy another home. Since he a black pitbull/GSD mix, his chances of surviving another shelter environment are slim.

Is anyone willing to buy him some time as we look for a foster?

Are there any rescues who can take him on?

Below is his bio and adoption application.

Here are some friendly lessons we wish the general population could digest:

-Not ALL dog breeds are for ALL humans. -Train yourself BEFORE you train the dog.
-Insta-dogs/puppies do NOT exist. One must put TIME and DELIBERATE effort into ANY dog one has the privilege of owning.
-STOP ASKING rescues for said insta-dogs. They see broken dogs in need of love and patience every day. This request adds insult to injury and it wastes their valuable time.
-SPAY and NEUTER your ANIMALS.
-Stop SHAMING shelter workers. SHAME THE POLICY MAKERS.
-Social media complaining doesn’t help. VOLUNTEER. We PROMISE, this will help.
-Stop ENABLING irresponsible “breeders” by buying dogs/puppies….from backyards, back parking lots, backs of RANDOM trucks, and the sides of back roads. STAHHHP. IT.
-Most “BREEDERS” do NOT know what they’re doing!!!
-In fact, most of these “humans” do NOT follow federal or state regulations and do NOT operate with a license.
-Even if they DO have a license, there is ZERO dedicated OVERSIGHT available to enforce our deplorably inadequate NC animal “protection laws.”
-Read that last part again. Because if you THINK someone is keeping these people in check… You are MISTAKEN.

Also, SPAY and NEUTER your animals.

Received an update on Ol’ Bart today! This video may not seem like much, but Bart had serious trust issues, and did not previously care to be leash walked. He would only let about 2 people leash walk him, myself and one our most committed volunteers, Wanda. Bart much preferred to sn**ch the leash from a handler and walk himself 🤣

So progress! And a potential adopter has been lined up. 🐾💕🐾💕
