To Our Bluegrass Animal Healthcare Family,

It is with heavy hearts we share some difficult news. Like many veterinary practices across the region and throughout the country, we have experienced firsthand the challenges created by the ongoing shortage of veterinarians. After much thought and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue veterinary services at Bluegrass Animal Healthcare. Beginning July 18th, 2026, our clinic will remain open for boarding services only.
The decision has been incredibly difficult. Over the years, we have been blessed with loyal clients who have trusted us with their pets, shared their stories with us, celebrated happy moments, and allowed us to be there for them and their pets through some of life's most difficult moments. We understand this news is disappointing and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and heartache this challenge may cause.

Please know that our greatest priority has always been providing the highest quality of care that our patients deserve, and we feel it would be unfair to compromise that standard. That said, our commitment to your pets and their care has not changed. Because our clinics share medical records, patients can continue receiving care at Mayfield Veterinary Clinic without interruption. In addition, many of the familiar faces you have come to know and trust at Bluegrass Animal Healthcare will continue serving patients there. We are grateful that we can continue caring for so many of you, just under a different roof.
Although this chapter is coming to an end, please know that we are not saying goodbye. We are incredibly thankful for the privilege to care for your pets and being a small part of your families' lives over the years. We sincerely hope to continue seeing your and your pets at Mayfield Veterinary Clinic and to carry on the relationships that have meant so much to us. Thank you for your trust, your loyalty, and for allowing us to do what we love every day for so long.

On July 6th each year we recognize the day to raise awareness of the fact that disease can transfer from pet to human. Such diseases are known as Zoonoses diseases. It's a funny word that describes diseases like Rabies, Ebola and COVID-19 that are NOT funny at all.

As we prepare for a weekend of celebrations and fireworks, now is a great time to remind your community about holiday pet safety. 🎆🐾

July 1st is National ID Your Pet Day. There is a plethora of choices when it comes to name tags for your pets. From in-store machines that create your tag on demand to websites offering detailed tags in various shapes and materials. You can even get tags that don't jingle when your pup runs through the house or your cat shakes his head. Whatever style you desire, remember to ID your pets. Microchipping works great as well but there are fees to keep your information current; and all IDs require the kindness of strangers to help return your pet.

In short, always keep ID tags/collars on your pet. One quick leap out an open door can lead to heartache when you don't have a current identification tag securely fixed around your pet's neck or an up-to-date microchip.
