First race of the year and Anny is feeling amazing!! We clocked a 21.2 in poles, winning 2nd in the 1D! Despite me having to work to get her around the last pole and somehow flipping the reins over her head 😆 We are so excited for this season!

When we get a 75 degree sunny day in March, there’s nothing better than going for a ride down the road!

Something I value in horses I work with is instilling confidence in all environments, not just the arena. You can only get so far with a horse going in circles in the same place every day! That’s why I love to mix things up to challenge my horses both physically and mentally. I do this inside and outside of the arena! Riding down the road gives me and my horses physical challenges (long straight roads let us work on conditioning over long distances and in straight lines) and also mental challenges! On this ride, Anny got to take in new scenery and face her cow-phobia 😆😆 but that’s what I love about being at Riverside Ranch! Not only do we have a large indoor arena for year-round work, but we also have a huge outdoor arena, round pen, trails on site, and quiet dirt roads to go riding and see things like cows, cars, and rivers! I love having the ability to work on these things with my own horse and training horses. A confident horse is a happy horse, and also sets you up for success in and out of the arena!

Meet my training horse, Indy! 🐴

When I first started working with Indy, I immediately noticed how smart he is and his will to please. He had a start working on a ranch previously, and while he knew some basics, he had a lot of anxiety around riding and a few bad habits along with that. He would really fight the bit and toss his head around, along with being antsy for tacking up, standing at the mounting block, and riding.

My goal with Indy was to get him more relaxed and comfortable under saddle so that he can truly work in unison with his rider. I wanted to share our progress after about 15 rides! I took him back to the basics and he is doing so well! I really focused on mixing up what I asked him to do with different drills so that he could learn how to listen to (and wait for!) his rider. He now willingly takes the bit off of a voice cue, stands quiet at the mounting block, and has gotten a lot more quiet with his head! He is also riding much more confidently and has done well with starting on the barrel pattern and learning some concepts such as side passing! He is such a sweet boy and has a bright future!

I also offer training for general riding and foundational work, conditioning, groundwork, trail riding, WSCA game patterns, and more! For barrels and pole bending, I have the option to haul training horses with me to races, both day and weekends! 60 day minimum, private paddock board included!
