Long before MSGBR became what so many people know today, it was much, much smaller.
Back then, Brad and I knew every dog, every foster, every adopter, every story. We answered every message, signed every email, and celebrated every happy ending personally.
Over the years, rescue grew.
It grew into something bigger than we ever imagined. It grew into a village of fosters, volunteers, adopters, donors, transporters, and advocates. It also grew into something that consumes nearly every ounce of the life we once knew.
And yet, standing on this side of it all, looking back at the thousands of dogs, families, heartbreaks, and victories, I don’t know how anyone could walk away.
I couldn’t.
So here we are.
These days, we may not be the only face you see. We may not be the only signature on an email or Facebook message. We don’t know every adopter as intimately as we once did, simply because rescue has grown beyond what Brad and I could have imagined in 2018.
But this next chapter finds my precious husband and me heading out to sit with Sarge and his family.
And it serves as a reminder that while rescue may have grown, the heart behind it never changed.
We are still here.
And we still care just as much as we did when this journey began.
Some people say rescue is a business. In some ways, they’re right. It requires budgets, paperwork, fundraising, policies, and hard decisions.
But for us, rescue became something more.
It became family.
Sarge came to rescue in February of 2020 from Berkeley County Animal Control. He would leave rescue and spend the next six years exactly where every rescue dog deserves to be: in a home filled with love.
Tonight, our hearts are with Kammi and her family as they navigated saying goodbye over today, to a dog who was deeply loved and whose life mattered.
Thank you for choosing him.
Thank you for loving him.
Thank you for giving him the life we all hoped he would find.
Years may pass between updates. Life gets busy. The rescue gets bigger.
But moments like this remind us that once you become part of the MSGBR family, you will always be part of the MSGBR family.
We are holding space for all of you tonight. ❤️
