ADOPT GHOST at Kentucky Equine Adoption Center ❤ Ghost is a striking, sweet gelding with a gentle, affectionate personality. While he enjoys the company of his human friends, he prefers a quiet, independent lifestyle and thrives in a pasture to himself. Ghost stalls well, stands perfectly tied for grooming, and is excellent for the farrier, making him easy to care for day to day.

Due to a diagnosis of grade 2 neurological symptoms (ataxia), Ghost is no longer suitable for riding. This condition causes some hind-end discoordination and balance challenges. He also has a slight rotation in both front coffin bones, which the rescue is actively addressing with corrective shoes. To keep him comfortable, Ghost receives one daily dose of Equioxx.

Ghost is managed on a rotational turnout schedule with a grazing muzzle from spring through fall and receives ½ scoop of Hallway Feeds Encompass™ daily to support his overall health. In the pasture, he tends to be the boss of his field and prefers to be alone, so a home without small animals or herd companions is ideal.

Despite his independent nature, once Ghost gets to know you, his affectionate, “in-your-pocket” personality truly shines. He loves attention and enjoys spending time with his people, making him a wonderful companion for someone seeking a calm, quiet retired horse to love and care for.

Ghost is looking for a peaceful retirement home where he can enjoy pasture life and the company of humans who appreciate his kind, loyal nature.

CHOLULA (a.k.a. Dixie) is absolutely loving her life in her long term foster home. She has an adorable mini who shares the barn and field with her and they keep each other company.

This pretty mare has really let down her guard and become such a pleasant and good girl. We are so grateful to her foster family for giving her care that is truly above and beyond.

Our Director went by to visit today and says it was such a heartwarming sight.

Fosters are so vital to what we do. They allow us to help more horses by freeing up space at the barn. But they do SO much more. In cases like Cholula's they give horses who need it -- stability and consistency that can be hard to maintain at an active facility where horses are frequently shifting in and out.

Cholula is truly thriving. Her foster mom has gotten to know her very well and has the skill set that Cholula really needed to support her in feeling her best physically and mentally.

If you are interested in being a long or short term foster for a rescue horse, you can reach out to us any time via messenger to learn more.

FOSTERS ROCK 🤘We love and appreciate our awesome fosters for all of the work they do to help rehabilitate and rehome horses in need. We have an ongoing need for fosters with a variety of skills/focus.

We need:
*Training fosters - we typically don't take on horses that are a major training challenge as that doesn't directly align with our focus, but we do have horses who need a refresher
*Rehabbing fosters - these fosters should have some horse experience and be willing to follow our care instructions. They should also be within a reasonable distance of a vet.
*Just hanging out fosters - these fosters maintain and actively and enthusiastically market the already rehabbed horse and are the last stop between the rescue barn and adoption.

If you have questions about being a foster, please send us a message. Questions in the comments can get lost in the shuffle.

Pictured here are Autumn and her foster horse Charity. Charity is available for adoption now. You can read her information HERE: https://www.myrighthorse.org/available-horses/filly-paso-fino-from-elkview-charity

GOOD JOB GUMMY (a.k.a. Gunther) ❤ A few months ago an individual reached out to us to see if we had a horse who would make a good companion for a 38 year old gelding (Sunny) who was about to lose his long time friend. We were originally going to send Chevy but things worked out that Gummy got the assignment.

Gummy is a nervous fella and so there was an adjustment period. But his fosters stuck it out with him because he was doing a good job at comforting Sunny.

Unfortunately Sunny's people did not have as much time left with him as they'd hoped. When they saw he wasn't thriving they made the difficult decision to say a peaceful goodbye. They let us know that Gummy's service was about to be done.

The day came this week and our sweet Gummy continued his service in the most loving of ways. We received this message from his foster:

"Gummy was a beautiful soul today. He stood with us and grieved his friend for over an hour. When we moved him to bury he smelled where Sunny last lay and that was it. He loaded up like a champion and is headed to your barn. They should be there in 30 minutes. I sent his feed bag with dinner and an unopened bag of Purina Senior. Thank you for trusting us with him for the short few months he was here."

So often people huff and scoff at the idea of "companion/non-riding" horses. Gummy has a previous injury that makes him unrideable. But his life still has value. He still has something amazing to bring to the table....a loving, compassionate and gentle heart. Friendship. Comfort.

Gummy is urgently seeking a new assignment as a companion. He is not happy at the rescue barn. He does much better in a less hectic setting with open fields and a small friend group. If you have some horse experience to help Gummy through his initial nerves and need a horse to be a companion for one of your horses....please reach out.

Horses don't have to be rideable to have value. Gummy (a.k.a. Gunther) is clear proof.

Please keep Gummy and those who loved his pal Sunny in your thoughts.
