Poppy has standards.

The crossed paws. The expression. The quiet expectation that someone should really be bringing her a pillow and perhaps something chilled in a glass.

She comes in, gets properly pampered, and then settles in like she owns the place.

Honestly, we’re just staff at this point.

Some dogs come to the salon.
Poppy receives guests.

And we wouldn’t have her any other way.

A pretty big milestone for Grace Davis.
When Grace joined us, she was completely new to grooming. Over the past several months, she’s learned the work from the ground up: bathing and prep, handling, coat care, trimming, and taking on more and more of the grooming process herself.
And now she can officially add Professional Dog Grooming graduate to that list.
We’re incredibly proud of how far she’s come. You’ll be seeing more of Grace working with the dogs in our salon as she continues building her skills, confidence, and experience.
From knowing almost nothing about grooming to everything she’s capable of today, she’s worked hard for this one.
Congratulations, Grace. You earned it.

I thought it was probably time I introduced myself and The Gilded Groomer here.

I’m Courtney, owner of The Gilded Groomer in Mason City. I took over the salon in 2025, and since then I’ve been steadily working to build it into something a little different.

For me, great grooming isn’t about getting as many dogs through the door as possible. It’s about taking the time to understand the dog in front of us, working with their individual needs, and producing beautiful, thoughtful work without sacrificing their comfort along the way.

We’ve also been developing The Gilded Groomer as a teaching salon, where experienced groomers can pass along their knowledge and newer groomers can build their skills the right way: with patience, technique, and high standards.

There’s still plenty I want to build, but I’m proud of what The Gilded Groomer has become and where we’re headed.

I’m glad to finally introduce ourselves here and to be part of the Mason City business community.

Somebody dropped the F-bomb. 😏

This 65-ish pound Goldendoodle mix came to us heavily matted and needed a complete coat reset.

Sometimes the kindest choice isn’t trying to save every inch of coat. It’s removing what can’t comfortably be saved, getting the skin and coat back to a healthy starting point, and beginning again.

A lot of fur hit the floor that day.

A much more comfortable dog walked out. 🤎
