The Humane Society of East Tennessee is in Desperate need of help from our followers and the community. Our organization has been in existence since Aug of 2011 and has remained open and helping the community through one grant per year and donations from our community. We do not get any help from the state or local county with any of our costs.
Everyday, we get phone calls for "HELP!"
Calls like asking for help for a stray dog that had been roaming in Maryville City for months. Crossing busy streets, begging for food. We immediately contacted and hired a K-9 trapper because we were told that noone could get close. When that plan fell through, two if our volunteers Wendy and Rachel, began trapping, feeding and gaining the trust of "Downtown Dash" on a daily basis. Once a fool proof plan came to light to trap Dash they went to work. With the help of another volunteer, they were able to trap Dash, get him in a kennel and transport him to a safe long term foster where he receives training, full vetting and plenty of TLC. Then there are the calls for cats and kittens that have been found in neighborhoods but have no place to go because the shelters are full, the calls from seniors that have to go to Assisted Living Homes and they cannot take their pets, or the seniors on a fixed income that cannot afford a vet bill that will help their only family (their pet) and they have been told they will need to surrender their pet(their best friend) to be able to get them the help they need.. We have even taken cats from a rescue whose Founder had severe health issues and had no other place for them to go.
We do our best not to beg for help, but unfortunately we are at that point. Without help from all of you, we will not be able to get through the next few months. We have rent, utilities, food and supplies, vet bills that have to be paid and are at the point we cannot do it alone. If we loose our building, we will have cats that will have nowhere to go, just like the ones we receive calls about. Our building is a rental and we have a wonderful landlord, but he is a business man and has to make. Living too. He has given us a great deal for what we have if you know what rent goes for in Blount t County. We have put quite a bit of time and money into this building to make it safe, comfortable and and all around great environment for the cats that reside there. We really do not want to loose it.
For 15 years we have been taking in cats and dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs and placing them into good homes. We have acted as a go between for pets that need to be rehomed, if we are full, the shelters are full we help these people find a safe place or home for their pets to go. We have taken in pets that we know are senior or have health issues and help them find their place.
As a dear friend of mine, Traci Boone, says, "As long as they have a breath left in them, there is a home out there for them." We too believe this. As long as an animal has a good quality of life, we will continue to care for them and give them the best life possible until they either find a forever home or it is their time to Cross that Rainbow Bridge. At that point we will be there with them so they will NEVER be alone.
We are asking for everyone that sees this to please help us. Please donate, share, spread the word, anything you can do to help us save our Organization. Help us continue to help them. We truly want to continue helping the animals in need.
If you can help, we can accept donations the following ways

Again, we do hate to ask for this help. With the economy and the cost of everything going up, more and more people are needing help with pets and we are just needing more help to help them.
We truly appreciate the time you took to read this, the time you take to SHARE it and anything you can do to help us.
